take note: howard started to en robe himself in black mass outfits during the late 80's and he was fully engulfed in the use of steroids to gain a masculine body, and to enhance his voice...

Was this something that Fox was actually considering?
Howard wasn't bad looking. He was kinda sexy-ish. Only got through the first part, but I enjoyed it. It had possibilities.
Robin's joke about gaining weight and wearing a wig was like futuristic or something.

Just to the extent that they funded the pilots to see what they'd be like and then promptly declined.

The first episode is okay, the remaining 4 or 5 or whatever are absolutely hellish. I think one of them was almost entirely in character as Elvis. Channel 9 Show it ain't.

My favorite part was 20 years later when Stern would re-write history as Murdoch outright offering him the gig and Howchie declining with no pilots mentioned.

There were 2 different negotiations with FOX.

The first was in the very early days of the network, where Howard was being considered for the time slot after Joan Rivers, and that's what the pilot shows were for. When that show didn't get picked up, it led to the infamous appearance with Arsenio Hall where he accused FOX of being responsible for Edgar Rosenberg's death.

The second negotiation occurred after the Chevy Chase fiasco when Howard was red hot after the release of Private Parts (the book not the movie). Supposedly, Rupert Murdoch lost interest after he watched the New Year's Eve Pay-Per-View special and Howard wound up taking the deal with E! and focused on getting a movie deal instead.

Watched all episodes. It sucked. Fox was right to pass.

    Bonelle Limousines, indeed.

Hate to admit it, but the first couple of minutes ain't bad. Good intro vignette, good banter in the beginning, and he looks "normal" or at least at home in that look.

(On the other hand, Leslie West looks like he has trouble deciding if the bong hits should be followed by donuts or if the donuts should be followed by bong hits. Hard to believe he developed diabetes with that svelte look. He's already doing the official fat guy move: the black shirt interior with a XXX large Hawaiian shirt unbuttoned on the outside layer)

That said, I have trouble believing it would have been any good over time: IMHO Howard blows anytime he is required to be in front of a camera or work with a script. His TV shows were painfully bad, Son of the Beach included. The impromptu banter that made him a radio star disappears and gets replaced with yuck-yuck jokes and forced "bad boy" humor. Unwatchable.

What's with that dainty watch on Howie's wrist, though? :c

P.S. The class should give @skylarbrie a big old gold star today for having both good content and the actual content imbedded in the thread. Yay, skylarbrie!

I noticed the watch, too. It was a tasteful Movado watch. Alison must have picked it out. :coffee:

I liked it. It wasn't 1/5th as funny as HE made it out to be but it made me giggle.

Vanish? Sure. Though, I suspect we would both learn the meaning of "bench" and "warrant" next time you get pulled over. ;)

@skylarbrie I assume Howard is revealing a message from his dark lord in this shot, what does it mean?
