Howard Stern’s Hilarious And Heartfelt Eulogy For Joan Rivers
September 07, 2014 12:22 PM by Stephanie Gustafson

Joan Rivers’ many Facebook fans are still shocked by her death, for, while the comedian, fashion critic and reality star was 81 years old, she still seemed to be in great health. Based on his recent eulogy, America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern is also in shock — but he made a point of abiding by Joan’s odd funeral wishes, sharing plenty of bawdy jokes and heartfelt remarks.

Although her career was widely based on sarcastic and sometimes mean-spirited jokes about the rich and famous, Joan Rivers has received plenty of praise from fellow celebrities in the aftermath of her untimely death. Howard Stern was especially quick to compliment the legendary comedian, for whom he had long shown admiration. Although the shock jock has yet to mention Joan on Twitter, he did offer up a very touching eulogy at her funeral.

In 2012, Joan Rivers made it clear that she wanted her funeral to be a star-studded event, complete with paparazzi, splendid outfits and plenty of off-color jokes. Howard Stern was happy to supply the latter request, expressing his hope that “Joan is somewhere chasing Johnny Carson with a baseball bat.” Howard is also believed to have made a joke referencing Joan’s private parts, eventually referring to the deceased celebrity as a “friend to the world.”

On his website, Howard took a slightly more serious approach to Joan’s death, explaining, “You were one of the all time greats Joan, not just on our show, but in all of entertainment.”

Do you think Joan Rivers would have appreciated Howard Stern’s eulogy? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it, so feel free to sound off in the comments section below!

    I never saw that either.

On Twitter I follow one of Joan's occasional writers (Julie Klausner) and the comedian and friend-of-Joan Billy Eichner, and they both really loved the eulogy. So good on Howard.

According to my friend Dan Mathews, who attended Joan Rivers' funeral today, the Gay Men's Chorus opened the ceremony with a rousing rendition of That's Entertainment. Then Howard Stern took the podium and quoted Joan from the last time she'd appeared on his show. He said that she said: "My c#nt is so dry that when I take a bath, all the water in the tub is sucked up into my c#nt. If only Whitney Houston had had the same dry c#nt, she would be alive today." Talk about getting the last laugh!

Do these people know that Howard doesn't need any writers for his two day a week show? Now that they lost Joan as an employer I hope they don't think Stern can/will help them. His hands are tied trying to pay for his wife to get gigs.

Wow, I can't help but believe that this was a tough pill for Howard to swallow. I'm actually looking forward to hearing the show in the morning.

From all accounts it sounds like this was a damn good funeral....too bad SiriusXM can't replace the "free" Birthday Bash video with a video of Joan Rivers' funeral, now there's something I'd want to watch.
