This came to mind when someone started a thread about the best alternative song of the 90's in The Bar. This was my answer, but it got me thinking: all these years later, who was right? Fred or Hum? At the time, before I had seen through all of Stern's bullshit, I always sided with Howard or Fred. Looking bad, Fred comes off as a real prick.

I'll try to find the full interview if I can.

    Nice find.

I love that song. I blast it 2x a week on my long commute. The breakdown section is great.

Jackie sitting in the dark again? Why is Howard holding a toy guitar?

I can only go off of memory because this predates Marksfriggin (95; he started in 96), but the band wanted to set up their own equipment. Meanwhile, Scott and the in studio equipment guys (can't remember who it would have been in 95) wanted to set it up their own way, which included putting the drummer in a different room. Hum was pissed, and they ended up partially setting up their own stuff (I think) and it came out really distorted. That's why Fred is cringing and tells Tom that it was "a way" to set it up at the end of the clip. I wish someone had that full E! Show, it really had everything: Great Fred fight with Howard and a band, great musical performance and guests who fucked with Howard, and Jackie being passive aggressive with the lights off.

Listen to pinch and roll. Btw Fred wouldn't of done that to a bigger act so just on that fact alone Fred is wrong, and most likely jealous.

Hum wasn't being difficult; they just wanted to be able to hear their own instruments as they played. And they were right to be concerned about Scott's setup: he fucked up the mix at the beginning of the song, and you can't hear the drummer. (The bass player just laughs it off.)

Jackie and Fred insisted that the way Hum wanted to play would create an indecipherable din of a sound. To illustrate this, Fred mashed his ears and Jackie laughed the whole time Hum played, even though they were both wrong.

What band wants to wake up that early to set up their own shit with a chain smoking 10 grade level fat ass overseeing the set up.

Fred was jealous as he always was of anyone who caught too much fire early in their careers.

that being said, Hum was douchelike
