Beautiful Tasmania, small island south of the Australian mainland.

The Hawaii trip I was aiming at became too much of a hassle.

My main purpose for having this vacation was to photograph exotic birds and since I love Australia (visited there three times already, once for three months), I booked the perfect trip!

Flying business or first class was too expensive ($17K-$22K round trip? No way) so I'm flying Premium Economy. A comfier seat with extended, padded leg rests. Small, dedicated cabin and dedicated steward. Lovely!

I go in mid-November. Can't wait! I'll post photos later of where I'll go and what kinds of birds I expect to see.

One of the beautiful areas I'll visit:

    Cradle Mountain Lake

    One of the hotels:

    Cradle Mountain Lodge

Some of the birds I hope to see:

    Musk Lorikeet

    Scarlet Robin

Can you get me one of those Tasmanian Devils? They look like fun on the cartoons.

I meant the cartoon ones that Bugs Bunny outwitted. That one above looks like a little prick.

I'm actually going to go to a reserve to see Tasmanian Devils up close. There's an area where they're fed at night and they all come up to eat and you can watch them from a few feet away. Gonna be awesome!

It's beautiful there. Two things to watch for. Dingos are so used to people there that they will come right up to you and beg for food. Don't feed them. AND.. even though they will be close enough for you to pet, and they are cute, don't do it!!

If you go out bird watching on your own, keep an eye out for spiders and snakes. All kinds of nasty little critters lurk in the leaf litter.
