I find it very difficult to believe there really was ever a Meat Cutters Ball

I think this event was created to drive a plot that otherwise would make no sense, on The Brady Bunch

There was one in Los Angeles in 1904, according to Google:

"MEAT CUTTERS AT A DANCE Local Butchers' Union Holds Initial Ball at Turner Hall

More than three hundred couples danced away the hours at the initial ball of Meat Cutters' union, No. 266, last night at Turner hall. It was a great Success financially and socially for the union, which was a year old January 4 last. President R. D. Hedderly. Trustee H. Speh, Treasurer August Stell. Secretary J. H. Forehand. Vice President E. Beniz and William Martin made the arrangements for the affair. The floor was in charge of President Hedderly, Trustee Speh and R. D. Lockhart; William Hoffman and H. Banker composed the reception committee, and Secretary Forehand, F. Ladd, J. Newell, L. Rice. R. Reese. R. Mitchell and J. Boland had charge of the refreshments."
