WTF I got an "exceeds requirements" performance review but no raise.

    So my manager calls me up and says "look, you are the top of your pay scale and if I give you an increase, it will put a bulls eye on you" . Yes, I have a good salary, but the company is doing great, stock just split, they paid the CEO 22 million last year. Does this sound right to anyone??? I could see if my review was shit but it was great.

    I'd guess that's why you are at the top of your pay scale :dontknow: otherwise you'd be at the bottom of your pay scale for the given job.

    My wife just got really large raise but no promotion. Exact opposite. :owned:

    Sorry that is a bullshit answer from your manager. My guess is the manager has a budget to work within and not giving you a raise yet you have performed is more about his performance than yours.

    Time to dust off the resume and start to look for new positions

    Most companies have salary bands. If you are outside of that band but not moving up you are a target during layoffs.

    This. I have high performers who do not receive merit increases every year because they are being compensated at the top of their band.

    You are at the top of your band, and either he knows the company is cutting heads, or he doesn't have the slot to move you into. At large companies, it becomes a pain in the ass for managers to get that approved. I would dust off the resume, and start casually looking. If you have a good relationship with him, I'd even say that you are going to start the process for looking internally/externally if he can't help you develop/get paid at the next level.

    I had something similar last year-
    Got a good review from my boss, I earned a full bonus by exceeding all my numbers,
    No raise.
    My review was high until submitted to my district pussy who barely knows me. He downgraded it, therefore no raise.

    I question him in the comments section- "so I exceeded all my goals, earned a full bonus, but you saw fit to downgrade my review and withhold a raise.
    How does that work, exactly?"

    No response.

    I am well aware of salary bands. It is still a bullshit answer because there is always flexibility within these bands and managers usually have some kind of flexibility to keep their stars.

    If they do not, then it is time to assess other opportunities out there. Basically the OP was told he did a great job but he was not going to get paid and will be treated just like an average individua his choice to accept it or notl

    Time to look for another job, pay structures are just a rough guideline, if you were valuable to the company they would get you the raise you deserve, regardless don't waste any time looking for another job.

    If you think you're worth more, find another job that will compensate you better.

    If you want to make as much as a CEO, take risks and start your own company.

    Or you could just bitch about it all on a message board.

    tell him you won't tell anyone so no bullseye.

    If you like it there shut up and bend over otherwise find a better place to work.

    Or tell him to give you a promotion and a pay raise and tell him you want to verify that no one at your level makes more than you and you want it in writing

    or tell him you love bullseyes. that Target is your favorite store.
