He knows NOTHING about music. He's still living in the 60s and 70s and actually thinks Mountain was a good band. What did they have, like one hit? Ridiculous.

Howard's pretty transparent. Mountain's the greatest because they have a tribe member for lead singer/guitar.
Leslie West is really Leslie Weinstein (I thought Stern hated when they did the old name switch).
Oh ya....and Howard's musical taste is pretty sad all around.

None of them know much about music. Gary called Linda Ronstadt a singer song writer. She didn't write any of her hits. But if you pointed it out to the monkey, I bet he'd argue with you.

I'll give Howard a pass on not being in touch with music, seeing how at age 33 I'm pretty out of touch with today's music, particulalry artists who have emerged in the last 5 years or so.

I will not give Howard a pass, for refusing to check his ego and maybe take in some suggestions for musical guests from his younger staff members. Does anyone think Letterman, Leno, or Lorne Michaels actually listen to any of the acts on their shows?

    I hate when he sings.

His "hurdy gurdy man" & "old man" are horrendous!

Remember when Katey Sagal was in and he forced her to listen to his bullshit music?

I think he hit a new low this week when interviewing Avril Lavigne about her teen pop garbage like he was interviewing a musical legend. He seemed floored it only took 15 minutes to write that musical classic "Skater boy" and then was curious about it's deeper meaning.

Even more narrow - Leslie West is a tribe member from Long Island.

What ever happened to Nine Inch Nails? They released The Downward Spiral in 1994 and disappeared, Robin

Howard is a "fan" of music of those artists and bands who will do his show.

He can never name one album or a song when put on the spot.

He's fuckin poser and a fraud.

Then again what do we expect from someone who has Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus on his IPod? Howard has the taste of a 14 year old girl

I hear what you guys are saying but there are a few songs which howchie turned me on to that i've never heard on corporate rock radio. The ones that come to mind are hurdy gurdy man, rise of the crimson king, and bowie's "i'm afraid of americans."

I think if you dig around there's a recording of Gary and Stuttering John arguing about grunge music or something. Anyway in this discussion/argument IIRC they kept referring to "Nirvana's first album" (which they clearly both thought was Nevermind).

I think in Gary's mind to 'be an expert' on something merely means to be able to flap your gums endlessly on the subject.

Yes, this is his new "go to" question, How long did it take you to write that?" he must have asked Avril this like 8 times....because "sk8ter boi" (proper spelling of that all time classic hit) is such a transformative song....asshole.....
