the birthday of my now deceased first dog Benji, the miniature poodle that could.

He once broke free from his leash and chased a great dane three blocks because he looked at him funny. Then proceeded to gnaw at its ankles when he caught up to it because it was the only part of the great dane he could reach.

Here's hoping the fire hydrants in canine heaven are made of gold little buddy.

Anyone else remember their first pet? Do tell.

We had a German Sheppard when i was around 9 ish that i had to feed (my brothers dog who went in the Navy) , He was chained to the garage and every time i went to feed him he would attack me and start biting at the back of my neck as i was running from it screaming like a little bitch :D
I finally got wise and filled a paper lunch bag full of food and threw it at the dog , That's the first dog i remember at our house.

Not counting cats, I had a dog named Luke (got him the same year Star Wars came out) -- he was a real pain in the ass. I don't know his birthday, but I assume it was sometime in November 1977. One time he was trying to get some food out of a big plastic jug that had a screw top -- his head got stuck in there and he was flailing about -- it would have been a hilarious youtube video, but it scared the shit out of me because I was worried he would suffocate. It took some doing but I was able to pull it off.

The first pet I really remember was our dog Ruffy, German Shorthair Springer mix. Lovable dog.
Wouldn't chase a ball or fetch or anything but what an awesome dog...

By the way, I'm glad July is ending. Bad things generally happen to me in July
and this July has largely been awesome....except for the heat.

Sounds like my pekinese when I was little. It ran and attacked a great dane, biting the ankles. The great dane wasn't friendly and I remember running toward it screaming that the dane would eat my dog but it just looked at my dog in disbelief.

Sounds like you loved your little dog.

My family had an Irish Setter named Cocoa when I was born. She was a sweet girl. According to the baby book and family lore, my first word was "Cocoa."

    Loved that dog.

Yea, he was a cool dog. We got him when I was 3 and he died when I was 19. He was the picture of health until he passed. The only medical problem he ever had was a cataract in on eye. Otherwise, just regular checkups. That damn poodle was a lion. :salute:

I had a cat like that, no health issues ever. The ultimate low maintenance cat. Lived from 1992 to 2010. Jumped off the bed one morning last year to go get a drink of water, I heard him yowl loudly once and when I went into the living room to see what was going on, he was dead.

Yea, I would expect the life expectancy of a poodle on Roatan is like 6 months.

We have two tiny dogs now that both run off other huge dogs when they come sniffing around. I don't understand it. It's either because they're both girls or it's some territorial thing :dontknow:
