Never read the comic book, and never saw the Sylvester Stallone flick from 1995. That said, DREDD is pretty good. Could have been great if there had been more character development. The movie itself is only an hour and 35 minutes long, so it basically jumps right into the action without really detailing Dredd's background. I'd like to think rentals and sales of Dredd will do for this movie what rentals of The Terminator did for that movie in 1984. It wasn't until that movie was available for rent during the big VCR boom of the mid 80's that it became massively popular, and demand came for a sequel. I think DREDD is good enough for a sequel, maybe with a bigger budget and a longer running time. Recommended.
