Our beautiful dog, the one in the avatar, passed away today...he was 15 years old and lost his fight with dementia, arthritis and other complications...hard day and unbelievably sad.

Very sorry for your loss. I know that now there's a void in your life that will never be filled. I own 6 dogs and dread the day when I will have to say goodbye.

I didn't realize dogs can get dementia. The things you learn here at Dawgs!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how devastating it can be. No matter how long they are with us, it's never long enough.

It's never easy. Changes the whole dynamic of the household when a dog dies. It sounds shitty, but go get another right away. You'll be shocked by how your attention shifts from your loss to your gain.

I hear ya but I think I need some time to recuperate from almost a year of hospice care here with him...but I do plan on getting another one as soon as possible.

This really helped me once, another time I wasn't ready.

So sorry about the loss of Dusty. I also did not realize dogs got dementia. 15 years was a good run, but I know it is never enough

Yeah...if they live as long he did they inevitable get it...it was torture watching him go through it along with the arthritic pain he had. He's in a better place now.

Sorry to hear that. Losing a pet can be really really hard. It will take some time but soon you will remember the good times.

Have had to part company with a couple of long-term pets, it's horrible. I think the last couple of weeks when you know it's coming is the worst of it, you've resigned yourself to the inevitable but there's no way to prepare for it actually happening.

It doesn't really help to know you did your best for as long as possible, but remember that anyway.

Hospice care? Did a large Haitian woman come in to care for him?
