I'm looking for a program that will allow me to "overlay" (if that's the right term) a photo, clip, or any second source, onto an existing clip. I would need to rotate and resize the second source to match something in the underlying/original clip.

I would also like it to be something a fool like myself could easily learn.:jj: ANY help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :hat:

I haven't found an HD clip yet. I have a low res version and I've been kinda holding off on a few things until I get a better source. I'm trying tho!

I'd be interested to hear some feedback from anyone who has used Premiere or Sony Vegas

I use Avid, it's far better than Final Cut Pro. FCP is a much cheaper system if you dont
    Have the cash, though.

You can try out Adobe Premier CS6 for a free trial. I haven't used it myself but one of my coworkers loves it. If you're looking for something on the cheaper side there's Final Cut Pro X, which is basically a step up from imovie, but not quite as good as Sony Vegas, or Avid. The go-to program for many people used to be final cut pro 7 but they discontinued it and you'd have to buy from ebay or find someone who has a copy that's willing to share.

I'll be glad to help you. First I'll need a little more information.

What do the terms "overlay", "resize", and "underlying" mean, and what exactly is video editing?

Sony has an easier learning curb, Premiere has more bells and whistles but it is much more difficult to learn ..

If you looking for broadcast quality go with Premiere if you are going to post on the internet or home movies .. Sony is a quicker and cheaper fix..

If it is just a photo then you can edit in photoshop and use any program like Sony Vegas to do this.

I learned After Effects to make gifs. :) I've used Premiere a little too but I like After Effects way better. Premiere is more for editing clips together I think, After Effects is like photoshop for video... you have all the filters/layers/masks etc... and it has some cool tools for rotoscoping and motion tracking (can save you a ton of time).

It was a little intimidating at first, but every button is simple on its own. I just went through pushing everything and googled what I couldn't figure out.

Thanks, honestly I don't have much experience with anything else so there might be something else better, but it works great for everything I've needed. There's only one issue I have with it, and ironically enough it's exporting gifs. You're best to render to video first then load that into photoshop and use its gif export instead. If you need any help just ask.. like I said it seemed a little weird at first but everything makes sense once you play around enough.

I would be happy to explain those terms to you, but first I'll need you to clarify something for me. What exactly do you mean by "I'll be glad to help you. First I'll need a little more information."?
