I think some oysters tried to kill me last night.

I have NEVER been allergic to anything (except penicillin) in my entire life.

Last night I had some canned oysters with crackers and cheese, and within 10 minutes of consuming them, became SO goddamn dizzy, that I couldn't walk to the bathroom, or sit up. I violently vomited for hours, and the headache and abdominal pains were horrible.

For the record - that shit is NASTY to puke up.

That was about 4 pm yesterday.......outside of the havoc it's wreaking on my bowels today, I'm perfectly fine again.

Can one randomly develop allergies at 36?????? Do I now have to be careful eating shellfish? I goddamn LOVE seafood.

I'd like to think it was just one bad oyster in the tin......'cause my boys ate them too and they were just fine.

Squid does that to me but no other seafood does.

If it was an allergic reaction your throat would've closed up to the point of being unable to breathe, your skin would be super itchy scratchy, hives, swelling, headache, heart pain, etc

Sounds more like food poisoning you got a bad oyster :)

Bingo we have a winner. The rapidity with which it came on implies a food poisoning from a toxin.

Suffice to say it will be a very, very long time before I eat oysters again. My mom suggested that because I bought an "off-brand", perhaps something in the cheap oil disagreed with me.

Scared the shit out of me though. I couldn't walk, or sit up.

Still haven't gotten rid of the headache, but I stopped throwing up around 1 or 2. Hot and cold sweats all night.

I have to re-think my entire appetizer list for Christmas Eve now. I bought 4 cans of them, and mussels and shrimp for my contribution.

Can ONE oyster be bad in a can though? My boys ate them too, and they were fine.

I would never eat a canned oyster unless I was going to batter and fry it.

The potential for sickness is too much of a risk otherwise.

Hmmm. I thought it was a roofie when I slipped it in your oysters. I waited outside all night for you to go to sleep.

The worst part..........because I couldn't move to throw up, there's a puke bowl in my bedroom that needs to be thrown out.

I can't bring myself to face it yet.

When I was a teen, I worked in a seafood joint. The canned oysters were for frying only. Well one time the head chef told me to go shuck him a dozen oysters. So I go break open six of them and have this brilliant idea that I will use the shells that don't have fresh oysters and put 6 canned oysters. I only had to shuck 6 and served a dozen.

Needless to say, the dude got really sick. I came clean with my plan because I was so scared I had just killed the guy with a canned oyster.

Lesson learned....never eat the canned oysters without cooking them.

    Yes

I had food poisoning one time where I really would rather have died than to continue being that sick. It was horrible and lasted a couple of days

I don't understand how you can swallow something that for all intents & puposes looks like something the cat hocked up.

Honey, you might have caught the Hep A. It usually ends up where you have no blood evidence of it, but you should see a doc anyhow.

I used to work at an oyster house. :hw:

This is why you NEVER eat sushi, or any uncooked food

A friend of mine got Hep A from eating sushi shrimp :(
