I was thinking abut taking the family to a monster truck show at Foxboro stadium in Mass. For two adults and two children it's approximately $130 for tickets and $80 in fees. That seems a little excessive to me. When I buy a ticket to a movie or a flight, I just buy a ticket. What's up with the fees at ticketmaster? Is there a better way to buy tickets?

    Nope.

I have two Guns N' Roses tickets for 7/20 at Foxboro with a face value of $50.50 each, and the total after the fees, taxes and surcharges came to over $148

I bought tickets to the local symphony and the fees were equivalent to the cost of buying a 3rd ticket. It's fucking ridiculous.

if you buy from the box office at the venue, you wont pay Ticketmaster fees, but usually that's unrelistic

If you want to be able to pick your exact seats its tough but, try StubHub... or scalpers at the venue... you can always haggle the price down from them.

The fees are more than tickets used to cost not long ago.

Maybe the event is really popular here. Cheapest tickets would only save me $20 total and they're worse seats than what ticketmaster has available.

Stubhub. As almost every show or event approaches, people who've yet to sell their tickets get antsy and slash prices. You can often get tickets well below face value, with little, if any fee.

    Great site for ticket buyers.

Artists who use Brown Paper Tickets are also extremely fan friendly.

I used to buy Cubs tickets that way. It's particularly effective for day games. Something comes up at work, kids get sick... people who rather get something, legally, for their tickets rather than letting them go to waste.

And I get box seats for $15-20.

I'm over here laughing at people talking about Browns and Nationals tickets being bought with no service charges and for cheap. The OP is talking about events people actually want to attend.

And Ticketmaster is paid to be the bad guys. The truth is that the venue and acts can set the prices of the add on charges for Ticketmaster. The acts get a cut of all the fees charged, including the 2.50 they charge you to print it yourself, and it's through brilliant manipulation that they can get people to be pissed at a corporate entity and not the people actually making the money.
