I did not even use it in the sense of "That is so gay" or anything like that. I used it in the plural sense and meant it as a blanket term to cover a "group of people who prefer their own sex." I asked what I was supposed to say instead; she said "Gay people." I think this is beyond politically correct. Am I supposed to say, for example, "Italian people" now, too? She said she was only correcting me so I did not appear "ignorant." I said I could Google a list of groups by and about people who refer to themselves as "gays." She said "that doesn't make it correct." Am I the only one who did not know this or is she just being way too over the top about this? I can't find anything from any other source stating this is derogatory.
