Greg Schiano, coach of Tampa Bay was quoted in the article as being in favor of getting rid of kick-offs. He said that any coach that has "seen the carnage" from a catastrophic injury could appreciate the sentiment. He was in favor of Punts to open a game. But the interesting part of it to me was how they would handle On-Side Kicks. He proposed that the team 'kicking off' would get the ball on their own 25 yard line, and it would be a 4th and 15 situation. It was an interesting article, and had me thinking about it some more. I think that 4th and 15 at your own 25 would be an interesting alternative for On Side kicks. Everyone else interviewed in the piece, primarily current and former players, were totally against the idea of banning kick-offs in football.
