I was reading an article on football considering getting rid of Kick-offs.

Greg Schiano, coach of Tampa Bay was quoted in the article as being in favor of getting rid of kick-offs. He said that any coach that has "seen the carnage" from a catastrophic injury could appreciate the sentiment.

He was in favor of Punts to open a game. But the interesting part of it to me was how they would handle On-Side Kicks. He proposed that the team 'kicking off' would get the ball on their own 25 yard line, and it would be a 4th and 15 situation.

It was an interesting article, and had me thinking about it some more. I think that 4th and 15 at your own 25 would be an interesting alternative for On Side kicks.

Everyone else interviewed in the piece, primarily current and former players, were totally against the idea of banning kick-offs in football.

Kickoffs are boring now. They use to be the exciting part of the game. Either teams should just start on the 20 yard line or make it a safety if they drop the ball in the end zone.

Sorry this thread isn't about feces, guys.

Let me smoke a few more bowls first, I'm still at 'lucid' stages at this time.

The idea of using a Punt to open the game is that you have more 'skill' players on the field, and they aren't getting full heads of steam at each other.

I could give a fuck about kickoffs too. I don't think it's the 'most exciting' play in the game. And the more I think about it, the more I really like that 4th and 15 instead of On Side kicks. I think that would be awesome. :cheer:

Personally, I think the kicking aspect of football is retarded. I'm all in favor of getting rid of the kickers. But today, it's a 3 man specialty crew with the Snapper, Holder and Kicker. The NFLPA Union would never be in favor of losing those jobs. Not that they would reduce the rosters, they'd still have 53 man rosters, but the Snappers and Kickers would be S.O.L.

Field goals should cost less or TD should cost more. Too many teams just go for kicking now a days and win the the game based on a locking strategy. Reward the TD more for the harder work it takes.
