Congress and the White House are full of career politicians that have done nothing in their lives but plot their career path. What we need in Washington is more engineers, doctors, normal people , etc. Post your nomination for office (national, state or local) that isn't a career politician and why.

mine: Rick santelli. Business man and founder of the original local tea party movement. He basically got fed up after all the housing bailouts in 2008 and went nuts on the air.

This is Howard related because anything is better to talk about than the Howard stern show

the current trend of vote buying, entitlements and government take over will continue until 'the greatest nation ever' does not exist anymore. Sure we can stop this destruction, but the Tea Party and the Republicans are not unified, and the media spreads so much constant hate about them they have difficulty convincing people of what's really going on.
how's that 'free healthcare' working out so far?

    ah, ye suckers...

Remember, you're supposed to think that simply going back to a constitutional sized government is "extreme". That bailouts for banks who took insane risks with borrowed money "saved the world", that the federal reserve "keeps things on an even keel", and a return to sound money that would have prevented all this makes you a financial "luddite"

Screw thousands of years of history, unbacked fiat money has an unblemished record.

I don't quite get what a "constitutional sized government" looks like unless you mean a government the size it was, say, when the US Constitution was written way back in 1789.

The C has not changed, except for very few amendments, but what has happened is the composition of the Court.

It is their subjective interpretation of the C that renders what is Constitutional.

And that goes back to the improperly decided Marbury v Madison IMO.

But that's my opinion. Bottom line is Con Law can be summarized thusly: Five.

Any talk about a "Constitutionally-sized government" is moot without five Justices who agree.

By size I mean one limited in scope and ability to fund itself by the realities of the constitution . No one is going to have their congressman vote for "federal health care" or "social security" spending that comes out of their pocket if the court strikes the laws down. Huge standing armies would not be politically possible if they could only be used when congress declared war. They'd be seen as what they are, expensive wastes of national wealth.

And who picks the justices? And who confirms them? Who votes for those people? The citizens.

Clever politicians know this and know that they can be swayed for their own purposes. Do that for a couple hundred years and you get what we have today.

Ethically corrupt justices who violate their oaths are the reality, but that doesn't make it right. We routinely violated the constitution so much and for so long that we don't recognize it any more. Supreme court justices are merely political animals who are appointed rather than elected. Ultimately the people bear the responsibility for such a joke of an institution.

It's pretty clear in the 10th amendment and in US vs Sprague, which said the 10th added nothing that wasn't already true. The 10th was passed to re-emphasize it to people who didn't seem to care.

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people"

The interpretation of the commerce clause is an absurd distortion. It was never meant to include the butterfly effect. "Oh, you grew tomatoes in your back yard so you didn't buy any so none were shipped accross state lines to feed you tomatoes, so we get to regulate your home garden".

You can find scumbags to rubber stamp anything and parse enough words to make it seem legal if you have enough money and political power. All corrupt governments in history have had facades of legitimacy. Roman emperors still had a senate. Hitler gave people "trials". Stalin had a politboro.

This nation was founded as a nation of states. States are not there just to aid the federal government in administering its "subjects". There were distinct enumerated powers given to the federal government where it was appropriate for a central power to be in control. That was mostly the case until 1861. After that it was steadily eroded and federalized until we have a huge bureaucratic monster. The states write their own constitutions and can do what they like if not in violation of the US constitution. It was a great idea that led to an unprecedented level of progress and prosperity for the vast majority of people. Now we are ancient Rome redux with the lowest common denominator being the determinant of everyone's lives. And when you reward failure you get much more of it.

Original tea party... The people fed up with the government running up high bills... The ones with zero social policy other than "pay the bills first, then well talk about social spending"

not that bullshit you see today.

the point is: nominate your candidate. You don't have to like mine, but unless you choose someone worthy, you'll be choosing between the establishment republican and the establishment democrat.
