De Blasio finally returns to NYC — and goes straight to the gym
    [IMG]
Mayor de Blasio took a break from crisscrossing the country on his progressive whistle-stop tour to get back to the city for some heavy lifting — at his favorite gym.

Hizzoner and First Lady Chirlane McCray were spotted outside the Prospect Park YMCA in Park Slope, Brooklyn, on Sunday morning sweating calories instead of the pesky details of running a city that was beset by violent crime during his absence.

“It’s summer! It’s summer! We should go to the beach!” McCray giddily told him as they emerged from their morning workout.

But even as his four-day hiatus from the Big Apple gained international attention, de Blasio seemed in no hurry to show his face around town.

He had no public schedule and was glaringly absent from the 30th Annual AIDS Walk New York in Central Park, where Gov. Cuomo gobbled up the spotlight.

    New Yorkers took notice.

“Absolutely, I’d rather have [Cuomo] as mayor,” said Teddy Callahan, 38, of The Bronx. “In a heartbeat. The governor comes all the way from Albany, and [de Blasio] can’t come halfway uptown?

After Central Park, Cuomo visited four churches and a yeshiva — all in Brooklyn, de Blasio’s back yard — to promote his education bill before the legislative session.

Cuomo even sounded like de Blasio, using Hizzoner’s favorite “P” word while accepting an award from the Gay Men’s Health Crisis.

“New York has always been the progressive capital,” Cuomo said. “We stand for acceptance.”

Political observers noted that, while pushing his own agenda, Cuomo will often try to — as one elected official put it — “torture” de Blasio a little.

It’s not “inconceivable” Cuomo would try to steal the mayor’s thunder, said Baruch College public-affairs professor Doug Muzzio.

“De Blasio has been out of town, and Cuomo swoops in,” he chuckled.

The mayor and the governor have clashed on several issues, including charter schools and hiking taxes on the rich.

They have also fallen on opposite sides of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential run. Cuomo has been an early backer, while de Blasio has held back his endorsement.

De Blasio returned to the city Saturday. While he bounced from Washington, DC, to San Francisco preaching pay equity to the liberal masses, New Yorkers saw three murders, 13 shootings, a crazed hammer attacker and the funeral of an Amtrak crash victim.

“This guy has no interest in the nitty-gritty of running the city,” said former City Councilman Sal Albanese, a Brooklyn Democrat.

“He seems to be bored, and he’s only been in office for a year and a half. He should have run for US Senate if he wanted to travel around the country pontificating.

He’s not in the neighborhoods. He doesn’t really deserve the job because he doesn’t really care about the job.”

De Blasio’s spokesman Phil Walzak said the mayor “routinely” interacts with New Yorkers, including at a festival showcasing Harlem’s culinary offerings.

“The mayor crisscrosses the city several times per week, holding multiple public events . . . as he did today with an unscheduled drop-by at Harlem EatUp, where he was warmly received,” he said.

He's closing in on David Dinkins territory---and that's saying a lot. He's going to be a "One and Done" mayor. The next election can't come soon enough.

He was elected because his son was likeable and had a giant afro.

He is a chocolate city mayor, without actually being, you know....chocolate.

See other's of his ilk, Ray Nagin and Coleman Young/Kwame Kirkpatrick.

Unfortunately, I live in Nassau County, which is not part of NYC, so I didn't get a vote in the mayoral election, but I'm in NYC all the time on court business so everything this ass clown does affects me.

Hmmm, I don't know about that.
New Yorkers were dumb enough to vote for him once (and are getting exactly what they deserved).
Besides, I said the same thing about Obama & he made it back in for a second term.
