I always wore mine. Before the law and I'd wear it after. You have to be a complete moron not to.

This is a great population control idea. We should change the law. We should also encourage people to smoke and drink heavily. This would have relieved the burden on the social security system from all of the boomers hitting it.

They should outlaw Narcan. The heroin problem would go away in a few weeks.

I think the potential benefits far outweigh the potential hazards, plus, it's been law most of my life that I remember, so it's just second nature to me...I get in and buckle up without even thinking about it...

An anti-seat belt law advocate died because he didn't wear a seat belt.

In a tragic, yet ironic, turn of events, a 21 year old student at University of Nebraska-Lincoln died in a car accident in January 2005. He was a passenger in a Ford Explorer that flipped over. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. The driver and front-seat passenger were both wearing seat belts and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

This was 4 months after the same student had written an op-ed to the Daily Nebraskan arguing that laws requiring drivers and passengers in vehicles to wear seat belts were a violation of his rights.
"If I want to be the jerk that flirts with death and rides around with my seat belt off, I should be able to do that, too."
