So yea I bought my house 5 yeas ago..it wasn't until I was in escrow that I found out there was a human tombstone in the back yard

Long story short lets just say when I did a walk through of the house it had been sitting alone for almost a year and a half.. so the back yard which is a quarter acher

had very, very tall weeds ... it wasn't until later that I literally bumped into it.. well the price of the house was too good to pass .. and for years now my mom and dad have been creeped outby it and

want me to move it... the county has no record of a person being buried in my back yard so the only way of knowing for sure is digging....

I grew up in a house with a cemetery on the property, about 30 graves, a few of my friends started to dig one up one night, I stopped them. Anyway, does the headstone say anything, have any dates on it?

If you move it, make sure no kids get near the TV.

How do you know it is for a human? Leave the body alone and move the tombstone.

what does the tombstone say? names? dates?

if you know that information, you can probably pretty easily find out where and when that person actually died, and where they are buried -- in the past, genealogical societies frequently put out cemetery indexes in their counties

you could also move the tombstone and call the coroner to say you found bones in your backyard :hhh:

It may not say anything, but that doesn't mean there is no body down there. Amongst the graves at my parents house many just say mother, father, brother, some say nothing or are so weathered that its gone, etc... I'm sure the city doesn't have records of all the graves.

You could always hire someone with ground penetrating radar to see if there are any abnormalities down there. It's not that expensive. :dontknow:

If you dig up the gravesite and find a body, you'll have to dispose of it following today's laws.that means $$$. You can't just get rid of the headstone; it may be illegal but certainly unethical.

Leave it or build a doghouse around it or something.

There is NO WAY there isn't a body buried there.
