i think they are only the good old days in hindsight.
The good old days are right now.
And this is closely related to the sentiment that goes something like "Why is it we long to get back to the place we once couldn't wait to leave?"
rent late again yo?
if you knew the good old days were now, why would you want to stick around for later when you know that, by definition later is going to be worse.
I try and live in the moment at all times.
i knew it when i was 17 - 23 years old bro. i fucking knew it.
i always know when what im doing will be considered good old days later

You don't know because you don't realize it until the things that made them good are gone.
There was a really cool but rundown arena where I grew up. I learned to skate there, saw concerts and the circus, shopped at the flea market there. There was a drive in movie theatre next door to it, where parents took their kids in pajamas. Now it's a big box shopping center with all sorts of sterile cookie cutter corporate stores. The good old days are gone from there.
A general rule in competitive running is to never look back, over your shoulder. It causes you to lose your rythym and stumble. A good life rule to live by.
