......in history, whose spot would you fill and why? I'm still thinking about this one. I know there are quite a few musicians on here, and even if you're not, we are allowed to have fun once in a while.

I wouldn't want to fill anyone's spot (Be them?).
But I'd love sit in with the Stones, The Allman Brothers, Social Distortion.... I know all of their songs anyway, so it wouldn't be a lot of work learning anything new.

Jimmy Page or Eddie VanHalen (David Lee Roth years). Why? The music they produced and just the iconic figures they have become over time. I'm 35, but when I think of Rock 'n' Roll those two names and images immediately pop into my head. The eras they were in were just as amazing.

Play bass for Queens of the Stone Age. Nirvana would've been pretty cool too.

I have long maintained that U2 bass player Adam Clayton has the plummest gig in the history of music. Now I've changed that to history of the world. Make millions, be treated like royalty, women throw themselves at you, and for all that you merely have to show up on time, stand on stage for a couple hours doing nothing more than playing simple eighth notes at a medium tempo. (If you can tap your finger in time to a U2 song you could probably do Adam Clayton's job.) Don't even have to contribute a lick of songwriting or even musical creativity. All of the perks and none of the hard work or pressure. A lot of people inherit tons of money and don't do shit; Adam Clayton can at least claim that he has earned this all for himself.

Bill Wyman claimed that in the early days of Rolling Stones, the band would keep a tally of all the groupies they fucked, and that Bill was the far and away leader, Brian Jones was a distant second, and Mick and Keef were even farther behind. At first I assumed that had to be bullshit but when you really think about it Mick and Keef did have their hands full in those days. Satisfaction, Jumpin Jack Flash and all those other smash hits--they didn't write themselves. For a good part of the sixties they were probably locked in a room by their manager with nothing but a guitar and a notepad, meanwhile old Bill was helping himself to a smorgasbord of underage tang.

I'd want to play tambourine or the triangle in the Go Go's, the early years. Since I have no musical talent.

Good one. You can be Nick Olivieri and I'll be Josh Homme. QOTSA ranks as my favorite band.

I'd kill to be in Queen when Freddie was alive. I'd play the spoons, washboard, whiskey jug, the recorder, triangle or cowbell just to be near Freddie as he performed.

    Fun thread!

For guitar: Jimmy Page (sorry @ARM) or Josh Homme of QOTSA/Kyuss

    For bass: John Entwistle

    For drums: Neil Peart

I'm a drummer, and my favorite is Bonham, so I'd say Zeppelin. I also love Neil Peart's drumming, but that's too much work.
