I've found wallets with cash. I never turned them in; I would track down the people myself and return them. I've found pocketbooks left in supermarkets and located the people. I've even found checkbooks and bank cards and tracked down the people. I called the bank on one of the debit cards, to ask them to deactivate it for the person-- because who knows if someone had found it, saved the info, and threw the card out? The rep told me to "just cut it up." They didn't say they were going to deactivate it. Imagine if that got in the wrong hands. I spoke to a manager who said they would have another training on proper procedures.

I would return it with the money. I don't need anyone's money.

I once found about $800. wrapped in a paycheck receipt in a 7-11. It was a Friday afternoon. Poor guy must have just been paid.
I took it to the counter and gave it to the cashier.

In hindsight, I should have given the cashier my phone number instead...

I like to think that the guy went back and got it, but I'm sure the 7-11 clerk pocketed it.

My mother in law found a wallet over New Years holiday in the parking lot. It had over a grand in cash, a federal security clearance and a piece of paper with all the dude’s passwords on it. We were in Canaan Valley and the guy was from Virginia. The clerk at the dollar store was all, “just give it to me I’ll hold it.” MIL was like nope. She went into the supermarket and had the manager put it in the safe and call the police.

If they know their DL number and each bills serial number, you'd be a scumbag not to.

Meanwhile in the Peoples Republic of New Jersey, close to the heart of the jungle......

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Nearly $300,000 remains missing a day after two bags of money fell out the back of an armored truck and set off a mad scramble by motorists to grab some of the fluttering bills, police in New Jersey said.

More than a half-million dollars spilled Thursday from a Brink's truck near MetLife Stadium, the home of the NFL's Jets and Giants.

East Rutherford police said in a statement that two bags of cash fell. One of the plastic bags had $140,000, and the other held $370,000.

Police say the bags fell from an open rear door that had a mechanical issue. Authorities said the bags opened when they hit the roadway, with cash becoming airborne because of the wind and vehicle traffic.

The swirling cash caused drivers to stop their vehicles and hop out on the highway to gather the money. There were two car crashes as a result, according to police, though it's unclear if anyone was injured.

Police say Brink's workers and other motorists recovered about $205,000 from the roadway. Five people turned in about $11,000.

Online video of the incident showed a sedan with its front bumper smashed as people walked along Route 3 during morning rush hour to pick up the cash.

About $294,000 is still missing. Police ask anyone with video of the frenzy to contact them.

I'd return the wallet but I don't know, it had no cash in it when I found it. ;)

About five years ago I was in Vegas for March Madness and had $5,000 cash with paper clips holding it. We were at the Hilton watching the games in a big auditorium and I went to get a hot dog. When I got back to my seat I felt a tap on my shoulder and a guy with my $5,000 asking, “Is this yours?” I gave him a few hundred bucks and also placed a bet on UCLA for him which he won.

I would have been naseous had I lost that cash. You’re damn right I always have and will return things I find to the rightful owner.

Last year, I found a wallet on the sidewalk the day before Thanksgiving on the sidewalk. It was packed full of credit cards and the guys ID was front and center...didn't open it to see if there was any cash. Looked just like the dude I just passed a few minutes earlier walking with his 2 kids and 2 dogs. I scooped it up, turned my bike around and tracked him down a few blocks away and gave it to him. Happy Holidays!

Found one when I was in my 20s had a bunch of cash along with a priest ID card. Kept the cash and turned the wallet into the mailbox.

I was young and a heroin addict at the time so giving back the cash wasn't even a thought

I would. I lost my wallet a few years back with. 300 cash and my 300 car key. No one ever returned it. Pissed me off. I’d go out of my way to return it to someone intact.

Yes I would. Only losers with no job, who stays with their mom and beat-off to porn would keep it.
