I have an idea for a wedding gift that's not only very inexpensive ($20-$30 max) but very personal, and will likely be among the couple's favorite gifts. It's also something they'll have and enjoy "forever".

I know wedding season is coming to a close, but this could be applied to birth announcements, diplomas, photos, divorce decrees or anything special that would make a nice memento.

It's the couple's wedding invitation, matted and embellished...

...it was very easy to make. I'll share with you the process.

It starts with a trip to the craft store, where you can find lots of ribbon, appliques, beads and embellishments. Just take your pick. I went with black and white because those are the wedding colors.

Craft stores are also great for inspiration. Look at this amazing shirt...

If by "process," you mean "how to frame something," I'm good, thanks!

    I know how frames work.

Anyway here's all the shit I got. Some ribbon of varied width, a good tacky glue that bonds to any type of surface, a key and heart-shaped lock (found in the jewelry section) and some pretty beads (also jewelry), a shadowbox frame, and matboard (which I had laying around).
You'll also need scissors, tape, and a ruler.

I decided to do a double mat. I'm fortunate enough to own a matcutter, but if you don't have one you can buy a mat. Though I highly suggest that anyone who makes or buys a lot of art invest in a matcutter. I use the shit out of mine.

Double-checking that it's even while the glue's still wet...
