So, I went to my local IKEA today for the first time and WOW it's got a lot of nice stuff. Do you think it's quality items considering the prices are fairly inexpensive?

I know asking you mutants was a wise decision.

    Happy New Year!!

I like the place, some of the items they sell are worth the cost, also they have a cool design. Did you try the meatballs and lingon berries?

I get the slabang there, it is salmon in a tube, but it is really good. In europe they put lots of things in tubes.

It's not great. But the quality is decent for the price. Good for things like TV stands and microwave carts. Furnishing dorm rooms and first apartments, things like that. We go a couple of times a year and wander around and pig out in their cafeteria.

Any of the Ikea junk made of press board will last 2 years max, and will wobble by the first year, if it doesn't fall apart during assembly.

That said, I bought a $400 kitchen table made of solid wood from Ikea in 2000. It lasted me 10 years of daily use.

Hello friend. I was getting some ideas for my new downtown apartment in Denver. I'm going with a modern theme and this place was scratching my itch. No food today but maybe next time.

My husband bought a two level flat screen TV stand from Ikea a few years ago, about 6 feet long, 18 inches wide. He covered the top in the flat lego plates, and turned it into a lego table. It sits right up against my son's wall, so it helps keep all of the legos out of the way and off the floor.

    Ikea has it's place.

they use pressboard or composition to take the place of structural support components in things like bedframes and cabinets. it makes for easy to assemble and easy to stack items, but I've found the glue used to make the composition weakens over time in a humid area (like NYC summers) so i've replaced some parts: I have a platform bedframe i got there. the center board that runs from head to foot bears all the weight of the bed and mattress so I took it to a lumber yard and had them cut me a length of exterior grade dried oak to match (cost $25). I had to drill 8 holes in it: the frame is going on 10 years now without any degradation. I'm thinking of replacing the bed this year because i want a new bed and mattress with storage space underneath, not because the frame is in need of repair.

in NYC where most people move every few years the furniture is cheap enough and stylish that you can toss it every 3-5 years instead of taking it with you without going bankrupt.

you know its part of their store placement strategy that they duct the smells from the cooking food to the entrance area so you have to walk through the smells as you enter? it keeps people in the store longer so they buy more. it works too.

They have a smoked salmon plate in the cafeteria that is really good, and super cheap.

If I was staying in Orlando, I wouldn't purchase their goods but moving to the drier climate of Denver, I should be good to go.

I've never bought anything but I feel like I'm being held hostage when I'm in one of their stores. You can get in but you can't get out.
