Here's a feed to the Illinois state legislature.

I'll bump the thread if and when it comes to a vote.

Cool! I'm surprised legalization is happening so quickly. Just several years ago it seemed an impossibility. Especially after the 04 elections when the Bush campaign used homophobia to get Dubya reelected. I kinda feel sorry for the conservative movement at this point. They've been wrong on every major social issue over the last forty years. Abortion, civil rights, women's rights, immigration, and now gay marriage.

the last two speakers are spouting off Bible quotes as to why Marriage Equality shouldn't pass, despite the bill's meticulously worded protections for religious institutions, they're still claiming they will be harmed.

When will these people just die off already? :pissed:

Now this douche who's speaking against the bill is arguing that kids should have parents whom they resemble, of course, unwittingly arguing against adoptive parents, whose children do not resemble them.

what argument did he use to explain that? how can he disregard the will of the citizens in a matter that doesn't harm anybody or cost the state money?

It's being argued under a ruse of protecting religious institutions or by ignoring (and simultaneously argue against) existing anti-discrimination laws that are already on the books.

    This stream is pretty good.

There's like 3 of them right now, carrying on about how marriage equality will discriminate against religious institutions.

There's one talking right now about how Catholic charities lost their right to adopt out children but he's basing it on marriage equality when in fact, they lost that right because those states have anti-discrimination laws.
