    Not bad.

    Starts off with "I'm fucked"

It's a series of log entries that tell a story, and they leverage that element well.

Sol 10: everything's great right now
Sol 11: I'm fucked and I'm going to die

If anything, it's a deep dive into farming, nutrition and the current (circa 2007) space program.

One of the best books I've read in a long time. Read it in 2 sittings, I couldn't put it down.

Another example of the book being better than the movie.

I liked the movie, as well.

...some of the lines were so cringeworthy >>>

"I'm gonna have to science the s*** out of this."

"Hi, I'm Mark Watney and I'm still alive... obviously."

"I don't want to come off as arrogant here, but I'm the greatest botanist on this planet."

"Mars will come to fear my botany powers."

    "In your face, Neil Armstrong!"

"I admit it's fatally dangerous, but I'd get to fly around like Iron Man."

    "F*** you, Mars."

Those are direct quotes from the book, and give me hope the movie might have actually done a decent job of capturing the sarcastic wit of Mark Watney.

Book was great. If you have a few minutes do some reading on the author crazy smart guy and the way it came to be published was amazing.

Imagine how many other great books are languishing out there.. meanwhile the pushing world wastes their time on this shit

Nah! I didn't picture Matt Damon in the roll, and they kid-friendlied it so no curse words, and it made for a poor translation of the book (for me)

I liked the smartass comments Watney kept making.

I didn't like the repetitive nature of the story: he keeps running into problems that look to be impossible to solve and within two pages he has figured out a solution. You'll see that happen again and again and again and again and ...

I read the audio book ala baboon lips.
Book was better than the movie but it was too dumbed down for me...
the world wide intrigues were wrapped up in a bow.

I think the book is almost always better than the movie, because there's only so much background, dialogue, etc. that you can compress into 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Unfortunately, they had to sanitize the language in order to secure the PG rating, without which the movie would have been more difficult to sell. Apparently, there are only so many shits and fucks allowed to secure a PG.

I really enjoyed the story, but found the ending disappointingly abrupt; like the author just ran out of gas.

Yeah. Not as good as the book. (And I wasn't all that thrilled with the book.)
