I don't believe there should be political parties. It seems very archaic to have teams like that.

That said, I know I have to choose something so what do I pick if I consider myself socially liberal and fiscally conservative?

Both parties are terrible, so I'd register as an independent if I were you.

If you want to align with one of the two major parties, however, you'd have to go Republican. Democrats are the party of Black Lives Matter, illegal immigrants, Muslims, and transgender bathrooms. That's just too embarrassing.

What state do you live in? Is voting in Primary elections important to you? Some states require party registration to participate in primaries whereas others are open, so you need to figure this out first.

Based on what you describe, it sounds like you tend towards a Libertarian type of party. Both major parties are going to have aspects you will disagree with, so you need to figure out what's most important to you (e.g., Second Amendment, foreign policy, GDP, trade, military, social issues, etc.) and figure out what's most odious to you, and decide for yourself which party best represents your important issues while minimizing the odious/disagreeable issues. At the end of the day, you may find yourself no closer to a choice, so unless your state requires party affiliation, it may make most sense for you to remain an independent.

I registered as an independent/undecided. Used to be strictly Democrat, but I'm voting for Trump in November. Doesn't mean I'll go full Republican, though, since Trump doesn't seem to fit the image of a true Republican, either.

I enjoy living in a state with open primaries. I figure I've voted about equal times on both sides (especially local) depending on whos running. I cant imagine being locked in to one party or the other - both are completely rotten. all you can do at this point is forget the letter next to their names and vote for the person
