I've been averaging a book a week for a couple of years now.

What do you read and what authors do you recommend?

Right now I'm working through John Connolly's "Charlie Parker" series...it's pretty good.
I've read Lehane, who is excellent, Michael Connolly, some Classics and the Jim Butcher Dresden Files stuff...

I just picked up "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" by Tolstoy and Crime & Punishment by Dostoyevsky from the used book store.

I'm not sure, maybe I just bought them so i'd feel smart but Norm McDonald was talking about how much he loved Russian literature on the WTF podcast so I've been meaning to check them out. maybe some day i'll even read War and Peace but it looks intimidating

I love stuff like Lee Childs (Jack Reacher), Tom Clancy, Michael Connolly, etc.

I also like auto biographies of rock stars and athletes.

Two books I'm actively reading right now:

On the Run: Fugitive Life in an American City by Alice Goffman. It's about how legal entanglements make it difficult for inner-city blaeks to function. The author was a Princeton grad student who embedded in a Philly ghetto for a few years. Pretty sure she was mud-sharking big time.

And the first Jack Reacher book. Watched the movie and it sucked, but reading about the character interested me enough to try the book. Just started it last night.

yes. and this convo has come up before.. you've mentioned some good authors including Lehane and M. Connolly.. I'll revisit this when the workday is done.. but there are a bunch of others in the same milieu who merit consideration. Maybe @Alisonsbankacct , @Petal , @ppm care to weigh in.

I find some of the books are better than others. But overall, I am a fan.

I thought the movie was ok, but Tom Cruise as Reacher was a joke.
