The bullshit fundraisers have a 95% overhead cost on everything.

They will only cure something when they can get a good profit out of it or they have to cure it before we all get it.

yup..as a fundraiser i spent one year raising money for police and firemen
wanted to quit the first day but my boss gave me a solid lead "gives every year"and one phone call and 100 dollars for me
    anyhoot..phone jockeys 25%
managers 40%..15% of what i raise
dude in charge got 60%..20% of what managers made

bottom line dont give to charities

ps..the cops we gave the remaining 40% to got busted for abusing raised funds
the hung out at the off track betting

I give my money to Alzheimer's research. When I started volunteering for the Alzheimer's foundation, they showed us a slide that showed all of the foundations, and how much they got each year. MDA is #1, and earns three times the amount that #2 earns, which was the American Cancer Society. Alzheimer's was like #13.

Most research charities are rip-off's. People are just beginning to realize it.. I exclusively donate to St. Jude's- which unquestionably has a bloated overheard. I've crunched the numbers though, and am comfortable w/ what goes where (for the most part).

I'm watching my grandmother die from breast cancer. Seeing first hand someone go into the late stages of cancer I just want a cure. I don't care if money is wasted along the way.

I give to cancer care charities instead of research. A little research can steer you away from the scams. I'm sure there are worthy cancer research charities out there.

The fact is that cancer survival rates have roughly doubled over the last 30 years, so research actually seems to be paying-off, regardless of how it's funded. These numbers aren't skewed from all the efforts going into cancer prevention either; this is just survival 5 years after the first cancer diagnosis. And the new numbers say that if you were diagnosed with cancer in 1984, you were twice as likely to die from it than if you are diagnosed with it in 2014.

That's pretty fucking strong, especially when compared to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Jerry's Kids. Over 4 decades I've watched that fucking telethon for those poor bastards, and I think the only improvements have come from lighter, stronger wheelchairs. I could be wrong, though.

I seem to recall checking out the Shriners Hospitals pretty well, and although I could do without the secret handshakes and power players in the Freemasons, their Hospitals for Children are legit.

You can find the expense breakdowns for the good charities pretty readily. The research is a mixed bag-there have been major advances in the treatments and survival rates for certain types of cancer. Other types, many of the rarer ones, remain virtually a make your funeral arrangements type call.
