Almost every day there are callers to the WUS who claim to be big fans of Howard and the show, but they don't know details even a casual listener would know. Wednesday a woman called and said she'd been a big fan of Howard "since his TV show" (didn't say which one) and wanted to know if he was re-signing with Sirius (she pronounced it "Cyrus") and AGT. If she really watched AGT and listened to his show, wouldn't she know he was leaving AGT and how "Sirius" was pronounced? Are staffers just walking up to random people on the street and asking them to call in and praise Howard?

    Wrap Up Show - Ronnie's Sex Drive. 10/14/15. 11:30am
Jon took a call from a woman who said she wanted to give out her love to Tracy Morgan. She said she's glad he's doing better. She said she also wanted to call in about how much she loves Howard Stern. She said she hopes he stays on SiriusXM (She pronounced it ''Cyrus''). She said she will miss him if he ever left. She asked if it's true that he's leaving America's Got Talent. Jon said it is true for those who are not aware. She said she won't be watching the show anymore then. The caller also said Howard has to make another movie. She said he's awesome. Jon asked what she'd like to see him do. She said anything. She said she would love to see what he does at home. She said for him to have a reality show would be awesome. Jon asked if she would watch Howard paint for 90 minutes. She said she would. Jon thanked her for the call and let her go.

They're most likely interns or staff that are given written questions to ask.

but wouldn't an intern know it's SIRIUS and not CYRUS? No, these are hired callers. They all sound the same. The same casual inflection in their voices, no excitement at the line being picked up, all on landlines with no phone problems, never any substantive thing to talk about, only how good he was on AGT, or someshit like that.

Yeah, they all the callers have the energy of minimum wage employees. Like the OP says, the callers make the mistakes you expect from people who never listen to the show.

And I'm not sure HOW they are paid but they are paid one way or another. There are some of these types that call into the HHS show and then he goes, Hey you wanna play a game for a prize and they get tickets or 500$$$ or whatever. It's so obvious who they are. I swear one of the women that calls, I think she just changes her name every week or so.

Something fishy is definitely going on. If the caller was actually an AGT fan she'd have seen Howard's goodbye segment and if she listened to Sirius she'd know how to pronounce it.

This has been exposed here in the past, but most large format radio talk shows hire voice actor services for their call-in callers -- especially those that want to generate buzz, highlight a current topic, or have so few callers they need to pretend there's a line of people waiting to get on.

I'm sure Sirius has in-staff positions or similar services available at their finger tips too.

Michael Harrison, the editor of Talkers Magazine, the talk-radio world’s leading trade publication, said he knew nothing of this particular service but was not altogether surprised to hear that it was in place. There was, he said, a tradition of “creating fake phone calls for the sake of entertainment on some of the funny shows, shock jocks shows, the kind of shows you hear on FM music stations in the morning, they would regularly have scenarios, crazy scenarios of people calling up and doing pranks.”

Rachel Nelson, a Premiere Radio Networks spokesperson, defended the Premiere on Call service and said that responsibility for how it is employed falls ultimately to those who use it.

“Premiere provides a wide variety of audio services for radio stations across the country, one of which is connecting local stations in major markets with great voice talent to supplement their programming needs,” Nelson wrote in an email. “Voice actors know this service as Premiere On Call. Premiere, like many other content providers, facilitates casting—while character and script development, and how the talent’s contribution is integrated into programs, are handled by the varied stations.

I find MORE interesting is that anyone even LISTENS to the WUS. John Hein has got to be the biggest kissass on the planet. They bring some 4th rate 'star' until Gary can show up. Hein offers no counterpoint, no substance. What a bore!!

Agreed, it's awful. I listen to stuff on my FM headset when I'm outdoors in the yard, so I usually just leave the radio on H101. Every once in a while there's a moment of unintentional humor when a caller or guest goes off-script and says something critical of Howard. It's funny to hear Hein and Gary desperately scramble to do damage control.
