Amazon Prime...free 2-day shipping for almost everything Amazon (itself) sells. Free, that is, after you pay an annual $79 fee.

Who has it? Is it worth it? I know you get video streaming and a monthly book rental as well. They have a 30-day trial, so you could use it just for the holiday season and save some shipping costs.

I use Amazon quite often, so I think I'm gonna give it a go.

I did the free trial and loved it when I had it. I didn't extend my membership past the trial as I didn't want to pay for it. If you buy a lot from Amazon and want stuff shipped to you right away, then I think it would be worth it.

I'm on my second free trial, and I plan on buying a year when it's up, because I tend to buy a lot there, and the free 2 day shipping is sweet. I didn't even notice last time that you get free streaming, so my question is should I drop Netflix??? Like, does anyone know if the movies and shows available are pretty comparable?????

How do you keep getting free trials? You have ways, don't you? :right:

Got it. Love it. Pays for itself usually in the first couple of months every year.

I have had it for several years but am thinking of dropping it. We didn't have to pay sales taxes at amazon for a long time but, starting this year, we pay 8.25% on every purchase at amazon. I've found that Amazon's prices aren't that great without the built-in discount and have cut way back on my purchases. I can usually find what I need at a reputable online seller that doesn't charge taxes and save some $$.

If I didn't have to pay sales tax, it would still be well worth it.

Love it. Thing is you gotta buy alot of shit from Amazon to make it pay for itself. The video thing is just ok, not as good as Netflix. The book thing is shit. The selection is very hard to navigate and you're probably not going to find books from the bestseller list to say the least.

At Amazon??? I find it really easy and I guarantee you that every book from the NYT best seller list is at Amazon with a substantial discount. Amazon keeps a best seller list as well. How much easier to navigate do you need? You type in the book name, the author or, even parts of them and they magically pop up.

We're talking about the free Prime membership book lending thingie. Try and follow along. Oh, and while we're on the subject, this feature is only for Prime members who own a Kindle device. That doesn't count for people who use the Kindle android or iphone app. So not only can you not search for a specific book in the lending library, you have to browse them on your Kindle, which is very clunky.

i have it and it's "acceptable". yes you pay the $79 or $6.58/month (or 22 cents per day, in Howard-speak), but if you order from them regularly one shipment will cover the $6.58 shipping costs. i've been watching the prices and I'm pretty sure that the Prime Eligible items cost on average $2-$3 more than the same items from non-Prime Eligible sources, so I believe I'm still paying for shipping: every time i've called up complaining that i don't like being treated as stupid, they credit $20 to my account.

The Prime video seems on par with Netflix, and prices for everyday items in NYC are up through the roof so Amazon is usually cheaper and they always have it in stock. (1 16oz bottle of t-gel shampoo in Duane Read is $20+ but from Amazon its $16, no-tax, and "free" shipping) and Amazon with 2-day deliveries fits my lifestyle so I use it all the time. I even buy coffee beans from them in bulk for less than I would pay from Fairway.

the first time i bought a KitchenAide appliance from Amazon, and it was delivered next day for $3.99 plus Prime, i was sold (next day delivery charge for the same item anywhere in the tri-state was > $100).
