So I have around 6500 songs on iTunes, and upon updating the software on my iPhone 4 (IOS 5.1) it has come to my attention that my 32 gig phone is nearly full, so I want to trim down the songs that I do not want on my phone. My question is do I have to check on each song that I want to import or could I simply just do it album to album? Is there a better way?

Make a new playlist of just stuff you want on the phone and load it up...

I thought of that, but doing that does not remove the songs just rearranges them, no?

Eggs Ackley. That's what I do, and I change it up from time to time, and sometimes use a smart playlist.

When you have your phone hooked up to iTunes, click on the phone on the left, then the Music chiclet, then you'd see you can select to only load that playlist, and your other tunes on the phone will be erased from the phone, but will remain in iTunes of course.

Ok, but does that leave the bulk of songs off the phone? I guess I could just check import only certain playlists, right?

I will do this, thank you both. You are the best. Reps.

I wish Apple would make a phone that was bigger than 64 gig, and did not cost half a grand.

I think you're right...I hate to admit it, but iTunes frustrates the shit out of me with it's little peculiarities, not to mention spawning like crazy every time I open it up...

I will give it a try by only importing certain playlists.

It's a trade off...I got a "Classic" iPod that holds 160G (120G?), and I have it nearly full. Cool...unless you are listening to Abba and then want to hear ZZ Top...takes about a half hour of scrolling in a circle :pissed:

You know when the cloud came out I thought that you would be able to store a bunch of music on it freeing up your phone. Apparently that is not at all the case?

I have the same, but I rarely carry it since I have my iPhone on me most all the time. I hear you about the scrolling though.

Yeah, SB is probably right...I was thinking of my older Sony Walkman, which is a good player, but you have to wipe it clean and reload everything if you run out of space...

I guess the only thing I can do is check the songs I want? Wow what a chore that is.

So did you guys update your software to IOS 5.1? I wonder what the upgrade entails?

Exactly. I never use my big iPod any more for that reason. In fact, I keep one iPhone playlist called "need to listen" and I put my new shit on there and rotate it off when I'm tired of it. It took a little getting used to to come to see that I was misguided in thinking I had to have _every_ but of music with me at all times. Of course, if access were better, I would return to those OCD ways in a skinny minute!

Either do I with documents and all, but I figure songs are songs, and people could steal them from better places?

I have my phone Jailbroken, so I'm still at 5.01 or something like that. I have my iPad at 5.1. It's all good. I can hardly tell one from the other.
