Ok, I want to be able to have itunes on my laptop and my desktop and be able to sync any device on either of them. My music source is on a shared drive on the desktop and I already have itunes on it. I just want to be able to install itunes on the laptop and access the music from my shared drive whenever I am connected to my home network.

From what I've read, it can't be done unless I physically swap a portable drive between them. :nojj:

Anyone have any experience in this area?

You're only MCE certified. Itunes is probably over your head.

you can do it; you might need to pay for a third software product to handle making itunes think its always looking at the same device, but the cheaper and easier way to do it is to store your music in itunes icloud. then every machine using your icloud account can access the same music as long as they can reach the internet.

I think you have to copy your original iTunes library into a seperate file, transfer it to a thumb drive, then load it onto you desktop. This way you have access to your original library without messing up a new iTunes account or having to mess up a sync.

I wondered about that. I have Ts of content. It would probably take forever to move it to Icloud.

I think you can do it using icloud or by turning on home sharing and authorizing both devices.

Funnily enough, that is the correct answer.

My laptop drive is too small for all the crap I am going to have on Itunes. No Thumb drive is big enough either. I got an Apple TV for Christmas so, in addition to my music, I'm going to have all of my video and images on Itunes. plus I have been adding lots of Ebooks for my Ipad. Backing everything up is starting to be a nightmare.

why not just install Itunes on both devices and migrate the music from one device that holds all your library?
