The darkest navy you can find. If you are slim go Italian if you can swing it, if you are larger you can't go wrong with brooks brothers...

Some great advice here - especially about blue/2 button. I endorse that.

To save a few bucks try Macy's where they sell suit separates. Buy the best quality suit separates you can afford - they are a great way to get a decent suit that fits well (due to them being separates).

Definitely go dark blue. Black is too limiting, blue can be worn anywhere, work, wedding, funeral. Make sure it fits well.

If you only have one suit, make it navy blue. You can wear it with both black and brown shoes, any shirt and tie. Its definitely the way to go.

Now second piece of advice. If you only have to wear it a few times a year, you can get a cheap suit, it will hold up. If you have to wear it all the time, spend a bit more and that suit will last you years.

Dark blue. Pocket square instead of tie. Cost doesn't matter as long as it's majority cotton. Most important factor, get it properly tailored...

    Nope.

@agnes said it was for court. In court the judge is the only one who should be wearing black ( this rule has been relaxed somewhat in recent years but you don't want to risk having an old fashioned judge). Always go with charcoal grey or navy blue when in doubt.
