Jackie was the real genius behind the show.

Then why has he failed to find any long term success elsewhere?

You do realize that extremely talented people can never make it big despite their talents....

I think Jackie's talented but also, he and the show were a once-in-a-lifetime perfect match, with both sides benefitting greatly from the other. Howard will never again be as funny nor Jackie as creative.

Apart, neither the show nor Jackie could ever recapture--or re-create--the lightning in a bottle they found together.

Jackie was a HUGE part of the show's success. I don't think fans give him enough credit. Not only the ball-busting and stories, but the lines he fed Howard and the pre-recorded bits were golden.

Yep. Never realized how naturally unfunny Howard is until Jackie was no longer feeding him lines. Just brutal.

Couldn't disagree more. Utter hack. The funniest part was everybody imitating his voice and breaking his balls. The Artie years were the peak of the show.
Of course, it's all a matter if individual taste. Some folks like horseradish and blue cheese a la bung.

Yes, it really is. And if anyone is a hack, it's Artie. :p

    Exactly.

Look, I am no Jackie fan... personally, I prefer the Artie years. But, you have to give it to the guy - he and Fred were the writers during some very good years of the Stern Show. Jackie fed Stern lines and started fights with people for content. He was right - no one was safe. He would break anyone's balls - even Stern's. As much as I loved Artie, he kissed Stern's ass constantly.

What I cannot stand is that Stern goes on these ridiculous diatribes that he could, somehow, do the show all by himself and be just as funny. REALLY? Is that why you have a team of writers and producers feeding you lines and bits?

Seriously, though, Stern is so unwilling to give anyone credit for actually contributing to the show (other than, perhaps, Robin, Fred or Gary). Of course, he will say he liked certain bits or call those he works with talented. Yet, the minute that Jackie was off the show he mocked Jackie for actually believing that he was part of the Stern Show's success. Stern absolutely loves goofing on Jackie's lack of success since leaving the show as proof that Jackie wasn't important to the Show's success.Jackie was somehow "lucky" that Stern blessed him with being on his show.

I liked the show when it was just Howard, Fred and Blobbin. I like the show more when Jackie joined. I missed him greatly when he left. When Artie came on, I really liked Artie too and found the show just as much fun but in a different way. But now, just Howard, Fred and Blobbin...the show sucks big time, as we all know. The revolution turned into wiggy's evolution into a breed of asshole I hope goes far away very soon.

I think he definitely was for a long time. Jackie was perfect for the format, feeding lightning fast one liners to Howard. Think what you will about his stand up show, his demands, or his side gigs, but being quick with jokes on live radio is a special thing that no one really appreciates.

That is a good question. But, you could also ask if Fred and Robin could find $1,000,000+ a year jobs if they left the show. There is a niche and some of them fit it and are way overpaid. Jay Leno overpaid for John. Robin's talk show pilot was dropped. Fred's band is relegated to small bars. Benji tried to Livestream with Elisa which went nowhere. Jon Hein did his fast food shit show, while Gary did his tech bullshit.

Bottom line, for as much as I despise what the Stern show has become, Howard was always they talent and made the losers around him seem like celebrities (which they never have should been).

I didn't appreciate Jackie as a comedian when he was on the show.

I actually think he sucks as a comedian.

He contributed jokes and punch lines in the context of whatever was happening (organically) and it was funny but, his true contribution, to me, was as a target of the relentless ball busting.

I loved it when the staff were goofed on unmercifully.
