Former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno will return to NBC this week to mentor comedians on “Last Comic Standing.”

As the five final comics face off Thursday, Leno will provide counsel on the ins and out of stand-up. Host J.B. Smoove introduces Leno to the comics by telling them they're about to meet “one of the funniest comedians in the world.”

Leno continued to perform standup regularly even while hosting “The Tonight Show” each night for two decades. NBC entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt has said he hopes Leno will continue a relationship with the network, and that hope is coming to fruition with Leno's appearance on the competition show.

    that's great.
I hope he gets nominated for an emmy or he contacts NBC and says he wants to replace Wiggie as a judge on AGT.
I bet the other 3 judges would be estactic

As much I dislike Stern, he is right about Leno. He seems to never be acting real.

    Yeah, to me too.

Just watch some of his garage videos.

Adam Carolla talks him up all the time as a decent, normal guy who is eager to help people.

...what makes jay leno a great stand up is he is funny without being offensive. you could take you family grandma and the kids to see leno and everybody would get a laugh without having to stoop to low brow to get it. thats damn hard to do no matter what you may think of jay leno. the guy is rocking an awesome car collection too, i think he saved many cars from bill harrahs collection.

Why didn't Leno just go on another network and be #1 again?

Leno walked onto Arsenio's show to let him know his show was renewed for a second season.

A month later, Arsenio was gone

You show some interest in his cars, Jay will invite you for a ride or to tour his garage without knowing you from Adam. Howard has edicts against even staff members being in the same hallway as him or making eye contact. Jay rides his Harley on weekends with strangers through the Santa Monica mountains and breaks bread with them at the Rock House. Howard modge podges alone on weekends.

Now once again, which is the "real" one of those two?

And that why Leno wiped the floor with Letterman for 20 years. Leno made his monologue funny enough where the viewers would tune in to him and stay there for the rest of the show. Letterman was stuck on stupid with his lame 3 joke monologue straight to the Top Ten list opening.

It would be delicious if Leno did replace Howard when his 3 year contract with AGT is over.

I have always felt that way about him. A really good friend of mine met him a few years ago at some event he was attending with his wife. He said Jay didn't have an "posse" with him or anything, and there were close to 50 people there...so it was a small crowd. He said Jay was like chatting with everybody...taking pics...having a fun time and really engaging people. Not fake at all. I guess the people that were there were kinda "egging him" to do a little stand-up, but he didn't. He was just there supporting his wife and relaxing I guess. He told me Jay was as real as it gets.

Could you see Howie at an event like this? He would be wrapped up in scarves in 85 degree weather, and wanting to leave. And Jay is something that Howie isn't...a professional comedian. Howie couldn't do 5 minutes of stand-up if he wanted to. Jay went out #1 and on top....Howie is going out irrelevant and being a complete joke.

As corny as it's sounds, I think it's loyalty to NBC.
I know that's a foreign concept in this day and age, but there you have it.

    :shucks:

Leno isn't my favorite, but I hope he is successful, just to get under Howard's skin.
