I love Jimmy Smith.
I gotta see them sometime when I'm in Chicago
Nice! The organ trio is my favorite jazz configuration. Love the classics, but the trio that has really been pushing the limits is the Larry Goldings Trio. Larry is more Bill Evans than Jimmy Smith, Peter Bernstein is more Jim Hall than Kenny Burrell et al, and Bill Stewart is an incredibly swinging and, dare-I-say, "melodic" drummer. It's a nice alternative to the sometimes stale
"Back At The Chicken-Shack" approach. Deep Blue Organ Trio here in Chicago is also doing some interesting things.
