I used to like him...but I judge people based on the company they keep.

The article mentions guests Michael J. Fox and Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. No mention of Howard.

I've never liked any of these shitty late night shows. I just don't she the appeal of almost scripted interactions with celebrities and bland, safe jokes.

Yep, they improved the ratings. Howard didn't:

There was one definite highlight for ABC’s 11:35 p.m. offering: With guests Michael J. Fox and Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, Kimmel scored his strongest Wednesday telecast (pictured above) in almost a year per both main metrics.

i figured a talk show guest who grips the desk and strokes the talk show host's beard would be a ratings dynamo

Except Letterman during his NBC days. Then he went soft too.

Kimmel is an untalented sack of garbage. No appeal what so ever. Not a big fan of Fallon, but obviously Lenos success radiated off on Fallon and that helped him stay on the top spot.

Conan wouldn't do that because Kimmel was a good little soldier and white knighted him during his failure as the tonight show host.

"Robin, they tell me that my appearance on Jimmy's show saved last week from being a complete ratings disaster. I single handily saved Jimmy from losing to Colbert. But the media hates me so much, they spin it to media darling Michael J Fox saving the week. Maybe I should get a disease that makes me shake so I can finally get the recognition I deserve."

I loved the Tonight Show (with Johnny) growing up and Dave was great in the ealy years, but I sat through some of Kimmel, Fallon and a couple other recent shows at a buddy's house a few weeks ago and cannot believe how boringly hacky and predictable every single one of these shows are.

Come out in front of curtain, tell stale political jokes, make fun of the jokes being not funny, do some rip-off of "funny ads" and then engage in boring-as-fuck interviews with stars we see every 10 minutes. WGAS WGAF

it's like they are terrified to try ANYTHING different at all. 40+ year old format.

Nah, he won't mention the word ratings. It'll be vague shit like he used when boasting about AGT. Like how he's been told it was a great appearance by a number of people and how Jimmy and the show were very happy with it. He has no way to spin the ratings, so he'll try to steer clear of mentioning them. Even if someone got through on the phone and said the numbers were low, he'd give the old "I don't know what they were. You say they were low, some people have told me they were good. I don't look at them. I just know everyone was happy with my appearance and that's what matters". It's funny. As soon as Howard stopped being able to pull ratings, he suddenly changed his stance on their importance.

He was so cutting edge and outrageous, I couldn't wait to talk about it around the water cooler on Monday.

The 'Entertainment' shows treat the late night shows like they are the most important thing in the world.

Every morning here in LA, there's a segment on what went on the night before.

Fallon is an embarrassment to human men.

I'm trying to remember why I think I maybe sort of liked him a little at some point on SNL. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why. Looking back, I think the funniest thing he ever did was laugh at Horatio Sanz. He's a terrible interviewer and his show sucks ass.
