How bad have things gotten between Joey Bosa and the Chargers?

    Eli Manning-level bad.

Manning, of course, made it known in advance of the 2004 draft he would refuse to sign if the Chargers drafted him. Former GM A.J. Smith drafted Manning anyway but traded him soon thereafter in a deal that netted Philip Rivers, Shawne Merriman, Nate Kaeding and Roman Oben.

Things worked out well for Manning, too, as he won a pair of Super Bowls in New York.

It looks like the Bosa camp now wishes it had followed a similar path.

Above you see Bosa’s mother, Cheryl, sharing on Facebook: “It bums me out for [Joey] so much. Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day.”

    Ouch.

Manning is still a hated figure in San Diego, where the perception is he felt he was “too good” to play for the Chargers. Any parallels between Manning and Bosa are sure to turn off a large contingent of Chargers fans … the same fans who will decide later this year whether the Chargers get the new downtown stadium they covet.

While this stance from the Bosa camp will turn many fans against the No. 3 overall pick, the Chargers are certainly not an innocent party here.

The two sticking points in negotiations remain offset language and the deferral of much of Bosa’s signing bonus until March 2017, according to a report from Pro Football Talk. Bosa is willing to accept offset language or the deferral of his signing bonus, but not both, a stance he has held since May.

The Chargers have their heels dug in, though, which is how we’ve reach an Eli Manning level of vitriol.

[IMG]To be clear, the Chargers are not considering going the Manning route and trading Bosa, an option that is only available until Aug. 9. After that, the next deadline is the Tuesday after Week 10, at which point Bosa will be ineligible for the rest of the 2016 season if not already under contract.

The Chargers are no strangers to taking hard stances with their rookies. Several of the best players in franchise history began their careers with holdouts, including LaDainian Tomlinson (2001), Quentin Jammer (2002) and Rivers (2004). However, those holdouts all came before the labor deal in 2011, which provided strict infrastructure for rookie deals.

This is a mess, pure and simple. At least in the Eli Manning situation the Chargers received a draft haul that salvaged the situation. This time, it looks like all the Chargers will get is a disgruntled employee and a couple weeks (or more) of missed practice time.

I don't understand how this is an even an issue. The pay scale is set from the CBA. Why would the Chargers want to dick him around on his signing bonus? Cheap fucks

This is why as the 'fanbase', we are fine with them going to LA.
