ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — A Florida judge has rejected motions for a group of media outlets asking to make records in the Hulk Hogan sex video case public.

The judge responded to motions Friday. They had been filed a day earlier.

Hogan, a former WWE wrestler whose real name is Terry Bollea, is suing the news website Gawker for posting a video of him having sex with a woman who at the time was married to Hogan's friend.

The tape was leaked to Gawker, and the FBI investigated. Gawker filed a public records request in federal court for more information about the investigation, and the judge ordered it released. But when it was put into public record in the civil lawsuit, the judge sealed the records.

Media companies, including The Associated Press, were asking to open those records.

Good. Gawker represents much of what's wrong in the world. They're despicable

...thats kind of big for a case like this in florida. they have the sunshine law that makes everything a matter of public record. the records are usually sealed for a cooling off period and later released because of the sunshine law it has to be made public unless there are some really sensitive circumstances that require common sense to seal them. i cant imagine why these would be sealed. were they x rated?

When Dale Earnhardt was killed at Daytona, the autopsy photos were requested to be made public, but a judge blocked it then the Legislature raced to pass a law and block it by statute.

Florida has broad 'sunshine' laws, but this entire episode is about invasion of privacy, so any documents should be kept private.

...i wonder how many invasion of privacy cases are sealed. i didnt realized the law was as broad as you say, ive always got the impression it was a real win for the press to have this law. its been a while but i remember the sunshine law being cited in the casey anthony case, i think it went both ways there some things were released others were sealed. i think the sealed info was later released.
