I am supposed to show up for Jury duty today, but feel real really shitty and don't want to get out of bed. Am I going to jail if I ignore the summons?

They must have an emergency number. Use it.

    Unfortunately you need to go.

I don't know how big of a city you live but some judges have been known to send sheriff's knocking on the doors of those that didn't show.

While I doubt that would happen, just go and nap. It's pretty boring unless you are picked.

Depends where you live. When I was in college, I received a couple notices and promptly threw them into the barbecue fire. Nothing happened.

If you're young maybe in college and stupid, you throw it out if you're older and mature you go to avoid unnecessary trouble.

If they subpoenaed you, better get going unless there's an emergency number. Warrants have been issued depending on where you live and the type of subpoena ie. grand jury, civil, criminal etc.!

I've totally vegged it and forgot to go. They just sent another summons that days show up on another date. On the back of the summons it has boxes you can check. I put they I am a caregiver for my 86 year old mom. I haven't had a summons in 2 years!. And then they were always call I .

Good luck! Jury duty sucks and I always get picked. I speak English well. Everybody else all the sudden can't speak it or understand.

Get stoned before you go...and bring a vape pen.

You can miss it but expect to be called again very shortly. If you miss it again then I would expect a bench warrant for your arrest for missing 2 scheduled court appearances.

Been called 4 out the last 5 years never sat on a jury just spent the day reading and watching shit on whatever device I had. Just go is the answer.

I tossed one just the one time - it's Atlanta and no one believes all those things get delivered correctly.

But when the second one came a few months later I went and wasted a day, got some weird sandwich for lunch and a whole $20 for my missed day of work. Good times.

Not sure about your locale, but most places are fully computerized and are tied to your DMV record. That's where they get the names. There is probably a website where you can request a delay or deferment, but you might be too late for that.

I'm not saying they'll knock on your door - but it could be a flag next time you try to renew your license or get pulled over on a traffic stop.

My wife wrote "8 months pregnant" in 1992 (which was true) and she has never been called again. But maybe they've gotten smarter since then.

I always go. If I ever had a trial, God forbid. I don't want to be tried by a jury that was too dumb to get off.

You got 20?!?!? That's a friggin' deal! The half dozen or more times I've had to go I only got 17 bucks. And I've never had to serve. I sat in the jury room all day. The last time I got called I got lucky, they said it was a slow day and let us go around noon.

Went 2 weeks ago. Spent a whole day answering questions from lawyers as they were trying to pick a jury about a case with a Mexican family (that spoke no English with a translator) that got hit by a car and we're looking for a payout...
Got dismissed..probably because they thought I had already made up my mind when I saw the family there..
    They were correct

Tell the Judge you believe it is your right to advocate for jury nullification if you see fit.

They'll pick you for sure. Not for a jury, but for the "list".
