    >The day is sometimes confused with Veterans Day, though the two events have distinctly different purposes. Memorial Day is for remembering those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle, according to the Veterans Administration. Veterans Day, held in November, is set aside to thank and honor all those who served in the military – in wartime and peace. The day does honor veterans who have died but is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service.

Maybe if the US took some time off from invading other countries we'd have fewer combat losses. Now we have "Al Queda" or "ISIS" and perpetual war. Very convenient for military-industrial resupply contracts! Keep that river of money flowing to arms manufacturers. Do we have money for a functional VA? How is that, exactly? "For you to be free" -- what does that mean? Can I legally grow my own dope plant in the backyard? Can I own a 30-round magazine for my AR-15 clone? What percentage of my income do I pay in taxes? *Do I have a national currency that's worth more than the paper (cloth, actually) that it's printed on?!*

We know the difference, but as we accept our thanks on Veterans Day it's those who went "ALL THE WAY" that we will always defer to. Thank you.

I get what you're saying. And you're correct.
But today is not the day to take our govt and military to task.

Well, it's pretty much the only domestic manufacturing base we have left. Not to mention, it's one of the few federal expenditures these days that is actually implicitly Constitutional.

I'm not saying we can't make significant improvements in how wisely we spend this money, but at least it's one of the few government spending programs that actually produces an important return on our investment.
