Sgt. Dale Phillips, the commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, said investigators were called to a home on Holt-Peterson Road east of Tuscaloosa around 5 o'clock Saturday morning. A 24-year-old there had been stabbed in the throat and cut several times in the torso. Phillips said his injuries were not life-threatening and the man is in stable condition at DCH Regional Medical Center. The victim and his girlfriend had come to the residence Friday night to visit a friend, Phillips said. During the night, one of the friend's family members began to argue about religion with the visiting 24-year-old. Phillips said the argument became heated and the family member, 44-year-old David Alan Lee Defoor, grabbed the younger man by his neck and a short fight broke out. Phillips said it didn't last long, but during the scuffle Defoor accidentally kicked a three-year-old who was standing nearby. When the 24-year-old confronted Defoor about the way he acted, Defoor allegedly pulled a knife and began stabbing and cutting the man. Phillips said Defoor was 'extremely intoxicated' at the time of the attack. Defoor was arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree assault and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where his bond was set at $10,000. Phillips added that Defoor was wanted in both Bibb County and Tuscaloosa County on previous, unrelated charges at the time of the arrest. This is what I miss about Tuscaloosa......the open and respectful religious dialog.
