So there's this website that lets you present a project/product/etc you want to create. You then set the amount of funding you need, and sit back and wait for the kickstarter community to pitch in. If you heard the Zach Barff interview you know what I'm talking about.

So far Ive contributed to one project 'The PAPA', these guys from Pennsylvania want to start a Proffesional Pinball League. I love pinball and would like something like this take off.

Although, it seems like an awesome concept, I got a couple of concerns.

    1) whats to stop someone from getting their funding and then just taking off with the money. According to the web site nothing. This scares me.

    2) what about peple who already have a completely finished produced/movie or what not, and propose their idea, as if they are tying to get it off the ground. IN other words nothing to lose by trying to get some additional capital, when they don't need it. The product has already been made and manufactured.

I love the concept but I think there too much risk for fraud and abuse.

    Your thoughts...

Seems like you have to have brass balls to start a project on there. What if the project sucks a la the Sirius Years.

Other crowd funding sites (like Indiegogo) hold the money until the goal is reached. If it's not met, you have to option to get your money back in you "donated" any.

Doug Stanhope has an Indiegogo site he started on Thursday night for the woman that Wolf Blitzer interviewed. She said she was an atheist, so Stanhope started #atheists unite. Over $80,000 in a little over 24 hours. Pretty great for the woman, she seemed very nice

Not yet, but there are rumblings David Lynch may use it to get a remastered version of Twin Peaks : Fire Walk With Me with the 2 1/2 hours of deleted scenes done. I would contribute to that.

You have to raise your amount within a specified time.

'On Kickstarter, a project must reach its funding goal before time runs out or no money changes hands. Why? It protects everyone involved. This way, no one is expected to develop a project with an insufficient budget, which sucks. Remember you set your own funding goal, so aim to raise the minimum amount you'll need to create your vision. Projects can always raise more than their goal, and often do'

I believed ya, I just thought there was one of the bigger sites that let people spend the money as they got it. Some dude was shooting a horror movie that way. He was shooting as he could...whenever money rolled it. I can't remember what site it was though.

Yeah he doesn't usually come off as a classy guy, but this is getting him some good press. I always get him and Dax Shepard confused.

Yeah, not classy. But he was making some damn good points....against a guy who goes to AA and has been sober for 20+ years.

Dax Shepard? Really?? And I still dig Bingo!

It's the lack of protections you mention that prevent kickstarter contributors from being investors. On Tuesday's show Zack Braff explained that it's still illegal for kickstater to be an investment site. The JOBS act forces the SEC to create rules to allow this. They were due in January. But they're still working on the details.

I back lots (probably too many) kickstarter projects. I've only lost on two so far. My Pebble smartwatch arrived last week. My Martian smartwatch arrived last month.
