JORDAN has promised to hang the Iraqi death row terrorist if the Islamic State carries through its threat to kill its pilot hostage.

Talks of a swap appear to have stalled and the government has now raised the stakes and promised to fast-track the execution of would-be suicide bomber Sajida al-Rishawi if Jordanian pilot Lieutenant Muath al-Kasaesbeh is not released alive.

If they kill the pilot they will implement the death sentences for Sajida and other ISIS prisoners as soon as possible

IS had threatened to kill Mr al-Kasaesbeh by sundown yesterday and there has been no word from the militants today despite demands to prove he is still alive.

The fate of Japanese hostage Kenji Goto is also believed to be tied to any deal Jordan and the terror group come to.

Elijah Magnier, a senior correspondent for Kuwait's Al Rai newspaper, told MailOnline the threat was passed on Islamic State.

He said: "I have reliable contact in the Jordanian government who says a message has been passed to ISIS.

"It warns that if they kill the pilot they will implement the death sentences for Sajida and other ISIS prisoners as soon as possible."

Jordanian authorities were told to transport an Iraqi death row inmate to the Turkish border by sunset.

The deadline – around 14:30 GMT yesterday – passed without a successful exchange.

The latest audio recording from Islamic State said the Jordanian hostage would be killed "immediately" after sunset.
