In case any of you were wondering. It's the book called "The Fast Diet" by Brit Mark Mosley. The web-site is
thefastdiet.co.uk. It uses it's 5:2 intermittent fasting plan, which is just 2 days on, 5 days whatever you want to eat.
Anyway, I've tried it. Starts to work in the long run. But it's TOUGH. Those two days are rough (and if I want to kick it up
a notch/lose more weight I'll do three days) and the next day after/normal day after eating anything, sometimes you
don't feel so great. But it does work, and his documentaries are good. All about food and health and I saw them on
public tv a couple yrs back.

There is no way in hell that I could eat 500 calories for two days. This is what the website says:

If we were to distill the Fast Diet into a single sound-bite, it would all come down to 5:2. That’s five days of normal eating, with little thought to calorie control and a slice of pie for pudding if that’s what you want. Then, on the other two days, you reduce your calorie intake to 500 calories for women and 600 calories for men.

I lost 80 pounds doing it two years ago, I heard Rush Limbaugh talking about. What happened to me is that the other five days you won't eat as much as you once did.

My trick was on the 2 fasting days was just to eat at supper and drink coffee or Diet Coke all day.

Depriving your body of calories is the worst way to lose weight. You don't get enough calories and it starts to attack your muscles first, not the fat. It is also not good for your heart if you have a pre-existing condition.

Occasional fasting can be good for you to cleanse your system. But doing it weekly seems pretty dangerous.

He also says he doesn't work out at all which is just stupid. Even if he is thin on the outside, he may be carrying fat internally (visceral fat) which can be worse than carrying a lot of fat externally (subcutaneous fat). Many thin people have a lot of fat around their internal organs that just is bad or worse than people who look fat.

I know that because I have a very active lifestyle and a high protein/low carb diet, I have a very high HDL/LDL ration that keeps the internal fats down.

Jimmy is probably no more healthy than he was when he was overweight. He is just thinner.

    Sounds like another fad diet.
If you wanna lose weight, lay off the carbs and hit the gym.

I saw his documentary on pbs a few years ago, and the one thing he never addressed is, how are you suppose to only eat 500 calories a day if you have a physical job? How can a construction worker only eat 500 calories?

meh. eating ketogenically and cutting out carbs /starches/sugars has been the breakthrough for me. coming up on a year now.

blood sugar rollercoaster = gone. bodyfat went from 28% to 12% and still falling. cravings for garbage vanished. coupled with barbell strength training (I do zero cardio), I'm in the best shape of my life and I feel like I'm barely trying. wish I'd known decades ago.

i'm a huge fan of IF. been doing it for 2 months now. not just for fat loss but i think there are some real health benefits. feeling more alert, testosterone through the roof, etc

on most days i eat for a 6-8 hour window, but i don't really give it much thought. some days i only eat 1 large meal & feel perfectly fine.

theres different variations like Greg Plitt's warrior diet, which alot of weightlifters swear by

Great point. Also this would obviously be a no-go for diabetics or hypoglycemics then?. What's so hard about eating more healthfully and working out a few times a week?

If your coke is good you won't need laxatives.

Keto's effective but very tough to manage long term. plus the food choices are weird: pork rinds & cream cheese= good, fruits= bad

IF feels more laidback. less meals= less hunger hormones. I never feel like I'm restricting any foods, I'm just eating less frequently

My transformation hasn't been as drastic as this, but its close:

Well, the guy who started this diet is a scientist. Plus did a lot of research and had several doc's about all this out. Hardly a fad diet.

You find out you really don't need it. Also you can exercise. Doesn't really effect you.
