Where do you rank this shithead on the all time list? Obviously a great player but a tad overrated. Only 1 mvp and 3 of his rings coming as second fiddle. His clutchness is incredibly overrated and actually a lie when looked at statistically. I rank em....

    Jordan
    Wilt
    Lebron
    Magic
    Kareem
    Russel
    Duncan
    Bird
    Shaq
    Kobe

I think he is somewhere in the 10-15 range. Arguments could be made for guys like oscar robertson, dirk, olajuwan

Bryant's decision is not totally unexpected, given that he has said many times in recent weeks that he has considering making this season his last. After two decades, two Olympic gold medals, five championship rings, 17 All-Star selections, an 81-point game that ranks as the second-best in NBA history and more than 32,000 points, Bryant's career is officially winding down.

"With 17 NBA All-Star selections, an NBA MVP, five NBA championships with the Lakers, two Olympic gold medals and a relentless work ethic, Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players in the history of our game," NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. "Whether competing in the Finals or hoisting jump shots after midnight in an empty gym, Kobe has an unconditional love for the game.

Only one rape (that we know of) and one alleged baby mama over 20 years, so he is likely to be inducted into the HoF on the first ballot.

Kobe probably somewhere between 8 and 12 for all around player. As a pure scorer, top 5. Wilt, Jordan, Kareem, Kobe, Mailman.

LeBron has surpassed him as well in my opinion.

    Same number of FMVPs
    LeBron has 4 MVPs
and LeBron just plays efficient team basketball

Bryant is shooting 31% from the field and 19% from 3 pt range, I bet they wish he would retire before the season is over.

    'Mailman' over Magic or Bird?

    Yeah, I don't think so.

$25million, iron clad guaranty. If they cut him, he still gets every dime. Same reason A-Roid is going to be in a Yankees uniform for 3 more years.

You could argue that Kobe was better than Bird or Magic because he was a great defender. Great all around player.

The Lakers and Celtics were able to hide Magic's and Bird's defensive liabilities pretty well. Plus their offensive abilities were so potent it made up for it.

Kobe is up there. Maybe not at the top with Jordan, Wilt, Lebron is now up there I think, Shaq maybe....I mean Shaq....we can criticize him, couldn't shoot, couldn't shoot free throws, his game was very basic, but there is no question he dominated the league for years.

I would probably put Kobe in the top 8 guys, maybe as high as 6 or even 5. You could put Magic ahead of him I guess. Even though he was a weaker defender, offensively Magic was probably better than Kobe with his all around offensive game. Magic had a hell of a cast surrounding him though, so it is hard to compare.

As a SCORER, rebounder, and defender - Karl Malone certainly is - @wife is a whore is right.

Bird and Magic came in at a time when the NBA had no salary cap and every superstar wanted to (and could) play for the Celtics and Lakers at the same time. That's why the two teams were in the finals virtually all of the 80's.

Karl Malone was drafted at 13 and played in Utah where black players didn't want to play for the most part.

Those years were essentially Malone and Stockton against the world. Magic and Bird had better team accomplishments and blatant skill than Malone but it's not that simple in that era saying ___is better than____. Especially when you compare guys that play different positions. Malone is a 4, Bird is USUALLY a 3, and Magic is a 1.

Good post but don't sell Bird's 10.0 career rebound avg short (better than Parish, McHale, Ewing, Oakley, Willis). EVERYONE overlooks how great a defensive rebounder Bird was, and defensive rebounding is a BIG part of defense.

The whole goal on D is get the ball back.

salary cap was put in in 1984-1985 season @ARM So NO.. for most part of the eighties... Salary cap and it was like 3-4 mil and on the lakers a player like magic was making like a mil a year (25 ears to 25 million) and lets not forget the sixers...Pistons . Kobe is a CHUCKER 2nd Banana who was hyped by douche bags who were to young to see Magic Larry and Jordan in Prime time let alone Kareem, Dr J, Walton, or Gervin.....

Malone was a stat stuffer who in an article I read in SI 1985ish said he LOOOKS at the scorebard sees he has 10 boards and "decides" to get 20 points or vice versa .....Showed he was a a LOOSER against Jordan.... REPEATEDLY ... and Failed on the SUPER TEAM he tried to coattail witha Prime Shaq and young Kobe(never prime)
