He will likely be released on parole in 2017. In theory he could be prosecuted under federal law for violating the civil rights of Nicole and Ron Goldman but it's highly unlikely they would do so.

I listened to the press conference and they didn't add anything that hasn't already been reported nor did they confirm much of anything that has been reported.

!st part, correct. But is said to be up for parole in a couple of yrs. Honestly, I don't know why the LAPD would waste time or taxpayers money on this. (Press conference.)

He's up for parole next year (2017), and since he's really doing time for the murders in Nevada (as that assault case on the memorabilia collectors was garbage + he stupidly hired out-of-state counsel to defend him), this revelation - IF there is evidence to link the knife to the murders - will doom him in front of the Nevada Parole Board.

The case is still open and I assume the LAPD was inundated with with requests from the media for info surrounding what might be a key piece of evidence in the case.

Again, pointless. They cannot try him again. What will all this do? (Press conference.)

Not pointless. If they can determine through forensic evidence that it was the murder weapon it's possible it could implicate someone else other then OJ Simpson. In theory OJ could be prosecuted under federal law for violating the civil rights of Nicole and Ron Goldman but it's highly unlikely they would do so.

A black guy. Getting prosecuted. By the federal government. For violating civil rights. Under the Obama administration.

OJ the only suspect, and they most likely won't pursue violated civil rights. Again, pointless. (Now if they could have the law changed to try the same case twice, like
they do in South Africa, that would be another thing.)

Whether you like it or not it's still an active multiple homicide case and the knife could be the murder weapon which is a key piece of evidence in the case. Personally I don't think anything will come of it but a forensic examination is required to establish that.
