    Guess Howard was "too busy"...

‘Book Of Mormon’s Josh Gad To Play Sam Kinison In Larry Charles-Directed Feature

EXCLUSIVE: David Permut’s long-in-the-works film about the late comic Sam Kinison has taken form. Larry Charles, who helmed the Sacha Baron Cohen comedies Borat, Bruno and The Dictator, has signed on to direct and Josh Gad is set to play the pentecostal preacher-turned-manic standup comedian. Kinison has a script by xXx scribe Rich Wilkes, based on the book Brother Sam by Bill Kinison. Permut will produce, Tom Shadyac and Bill Kinison will be exec producers, and Steve Longi and Permut Presentations’ Chris Mangano will co-produce.“There was nothing conventional about Sam Kinison and neither will be the cinematic interpretation of his life,” said Permut. “Larry Charles is the perfect director to bring Rich Wilkes’ incredible script to screen, and Josh Gad’s tremendous ability to morph into a role will bring great depth to Kinison’s larger than life persona.”

This will allow Howard to focus on putting the finishing touches on his remake of Porky's.

Howard already lost the rights to the Sam Kinison movie. He had to make the movie by a certain point or the rights reverted back to Kinison's brother. That date long passed.

Yet another failed project and a waste of money for Howard.

"I swear Robin, they're all out to get me. First every broadcaster in radio steals from me, and now this 'Lonnie Charles' stole my idea for a movie about Sam. I invented biopics, and I'm pretty sure I just launched this guy's career by mentioning him on the show."

Could be a good story if they avoid the standard Hollywood cliches, can't really see it getting much of a theater audience.

This could actually be a good movie. I watched a couple of episodes of 1600 Penn, and Josh Gad did some pretty good work as the goofy son.

The real reason Howard never produced the film was because he couldn't get someone else to finance it. Howard didn't understand that when you have production company, you finance the project. Like always Howard wanted all of the reward and none of the risk. He did the same thing with Sirius. Wanted all of the reward but put up no investment.

We all know that Howard makes big proclamations about all the great things he's going to do, but rarely ever follows through. Wonder how much of a tax dump his production company is at this point?
