Annual eye appt today and will be having to drop another $700 on a year's worth of contacts. Im really considering just biting the bullet and getting Lasik. I travel a lot for work and the contacts are just becoming a pain in the ass.

Any shedders gotten Lasik? Is it worth it? Any complications or issues down the road? Will I go blind in 20 years?

Had Lasik 9 years ago. I followed the doctors instructions and have had zero problems. The smell of my eye being lasered was a bit disconcerting.

Had it done in 2003 and a tune up a year ago. I was practically blind before I had it done. I had to put my glasses in the same spot before I got in the shower so I could find them when I got out.

Takes seconds and you see significantly better than you do with traditionally corrected vision.

I had it done on a Thursday, took the Valium they gave me (and a few budweisers) and napped most of the rest of that day, drove myself back for the follow up about 24 hours post procedure.

I hate putting in contacts. I still need reading glasses when I have them in. I bought a variety pack of coloured lenses which were very thick and scared me. Huge waste of cash and purple eyes don't look normal.
I would like to get surgery but I'm scared. I hate wearing glasses.

    Good luck in your decision.

Don't know enough about it. But last I did hear, they seem to be better with near-sighted than far-sighted. Don't know if that's still true or not. But it's worth a look into.

I had Lasik in my mid 20's and less than 10 years later, I was back in contacts because my prescription had changed enough after Lasik that I wasn't going to pass the driver's vision test. I have discussed doing Lasik again with my eye doctor and he said that every time you shave the cornea down, there are risks. I already had suffered from halos and dry eye from Lasik and now suffering from a dry eye problem that leaves me wearing glasses more than contacts these days - I wonder if the problem would be so bad if I didn't have Lasik? Regardless, I was very happy for the 8-9 years that I needed no vision correction. Your eyes will keep changing, but I think things stabilize somewhat when you are older (doc said for women, the 30's, after children because hormonal shifts can change vision), so my biggest recommendation would be to not do it too young like I did. And just an FYI - I was told there's almost no chance of going blind because of Lasik.

As a side note - don't know what your prescription is, however my husband's vision was so bad that it could not be corrected with Lasik. He opted for implanted contact lenses and is very happy with his choice. It's been probably 6 years since he had that surgery. Price was similar to Lasik (if you go to a good Lasik doctor and not one of those cheap hacks).

Oh, one more comment. My reading vision has never changed, so Lasik did not change my up-close vision. That's a positive!

I just Google a lasik forum. People sometimes do have complications.

I'm so used to contacts and glasses, it's not worth the risk for me

I was near sighted in one eye and far in the other so I compensated well but my vision was actually shit. I had LASIK a year and a half ago (for better distance vision) with a tweak last summer to one eye. Zero complaints. I only need reading glasses for fine print bullshit.

I'm 47 now and have never worn glasses/contacts.

Do you have some odd contact lens prescription? I pay about $200 per year for contacts and supplies.

I could get Lasik but the doc says if contacts are working for you why bother.

I had Lasik in the late 90s, one of the best things I ever did. I was like 20 / 250 at the start and 20 / 40 afterwards, 20 / 20 in the right eye. 16-17 years later the only time I really need glasses is for driving. I was surprised at the difference not having to wear glasses was, especially at playing sports. I really was handicapped all those years.

At Larry inc. we all have perfect everything
@LawyerLarry is so good if he looks at a blind person they get 20/20 vision.
Everyone thinks @ClintDagger has ex ray vision because he has seen what's under so many ladies clothes. @ShutUpSitDown Is so smart he can see with out even using his eyes. And @EDDIEVRULZ has sometimes been known to have double vision and also wear beer goggles. Larry inc. better then you in every way.

I like wearing glasses just so I can pull them off and "consider" what's been said as if I really gave a f*ck.
It breaks the verbal tempo in a meeting. It allows me to gather my thoughts even though I'm really thinking about Lunch (or leaving if it's after Lunch).

I wear glasses. Have contacts but rarely wear them. I don't give enough of a fuck to have surgery on my eyeballs.
